If you’re familiar with the military, then you’ve probably heard the term, “standby.” Usually this means to stay in a place until an expected event happens or that you’ve been given orders to proceed.
Standby accurately sums up the status most events around the world are currently experiencing given the recent COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
Queen City Honor Flight postponed
One of the local events on “standby” is the Queen City Honor Flight that was initially scheduled to transport nearly 100 veterans and their guardians from Charlotte to Washington, D.C. on the 16th of May.
On March 12th, the Honor Flight Network, which oversees nearly 120 hubs, postponed all trips through April 30, 2020 in response to the growing health concerns. This decision was based the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advisement that adults over the age of 60 are particularly at risk of infection and should avoid all non-essential air travel.
The Board of Directors responsible for the Queen City Honor Flight will continue to work with the national Honor Flight Board to assess if any extensions need to made beyond the April 30 date. Queen City Honor Flight information can be found on their website at https://qchonorflight.org/contact.html.
LKN Vets & Patriots fundraising event postponed
Another event on standby is the fundraising event to benefit the Queen City Honor Flight hosted by LKN Vets & Patriots. According to Dana Pape, Founder of LKN Vets & Patriots, they were about to ‘pull the trigger’ on mass marketing for their mid-April fundraiser when local and county officials released guidance to postpone events hosting 100 or more people.
“Our sponsors are excited to reschedule the fundraising event once local officials give us the green light. Lake Norman is one of the most patriotic communities and we’re confident people will come out to support our veterans and work toward contributing to the nearly $1000,000 price tag to operate just one Honor Flight.”

Until then, we’re all on standby!
