This year it is my goal to help you get new and comforting looks for your home. I don’t think there is anyone out there that has not felt at least a few of the effects of Covid and the economy. I will share with you some of “The Tricks of the Trade” if you send me some of your Design Dilemma’s. Let’s do it together, have some fun and create a space that you LOVE! As a designer I do have access to programs that the public doesn’t have access to. I am using 3Dream.net for the drawings.
This is a great starting place, and I can show you how to do your own, or where to buy a kit, and furniture piece, at a very reasonable price. That is usually where I start with a client. Knowing what will actually fit in that room, what do you really need and what is the finished feel of that space. It all starts with the floor plan.
What happened to garage sales, secondhand stores, and furniture sales? We will explore different avenues and make your dollars work for you. People don’t care where you bought your sofa, area rug or artwork, as long as it all works for you, and together.
The first thing I usually have my clients do is answer this question. If money was not a problem or you just won the lottery, how would you decorate this room? If you have no idea, the next time you are in the grocery store, buy some decorating magazines, and pull out the pictures you don’t like and the ones you do. DREAM! Money is no option when it comes to dreams. Make lists of your needs and time frame. Be realistic and make it fun — it is your home!
After the above considerations have been thought through, we will need to learn the color wheel and what and how color makes you feel. I am the Executor Director of the Dewey Color System, We Make Color Easy. I will break color down into digestible segments that will make your decisions much easier.
We will look at color meaning, what the Warm and Cool Colors do to a space and help you narrow down the selections for you and your partner.
Looking at where you have been, where you want to go and who you are! This is a very personal aspect of design and, for many, the finishing touches. In other words, another way to pull style, color, and personality together in a space.
Another one of my favorite elements of design. Lighting can change everything. Don’t be afraid to play with your lighting. One huge tip is to put all your lights on at night and take many pictures. If you are still using the old bulbs, switch a few bulbs that are giving you that yellow glow, to the new LED bulbs and take pictures. The pictures will tell the story and which bulb is best for your room.
