One Paddle Short – But Still Rowing w/ Monica Lucia Hoffman: Sunday Funday: The Season We All Win

Sunday Funday - The Season We All Win

Football season is here, and let’s be honest—it’s not just his thing anymore. Between fantasy leagues, tailgate snacks, and Taylor Swift making “football girlfriend” chic again, plenty of us women are just as glued to the TV. We yell at refs, we know the difference between a tight end and a wide receiver (wink), and yes, we secretly cheer harder when Taylor’s boyfriend scores a touchdown.

But here’s the real magic of the season: Sundays have now become Sunday, Ask Your Husband Anything Day. You don’t have to fake an interest in the game—because you’re actually into it—but you can still cash in while he’s distracted. It’s the one time of year where you can ask for anything from new boots to a weekend getaway, and he’ll agree without even knowing it.

Some golden play calls:

  • During kickoff hype: Ask about splurging on that concert ticket—his eyes are on the field, not your calendar.
  • Right after a touchdown dance: He’s too busy celebrating to realize he just nodded yes to a girls’ trip.
  • While Taylor’s on screen: That’s your moment to mention the puppy adoption plan. His heart is too busy rolling its eyes to argue.

But here’s the twist—we’re not just scheming. We love the game too. The snacks, the rivalries, the yelling at the TV like the ref can hear us—it’s part of the fun. Football season is community, chaos, and the perfect cover for a little multitasking.

So go ahead, cheer loud, wear the jersey, and ask for that bathroom renovation at halftime. Because in football season, everybody wins—your team, your husband, and you with your brand-new boots.

And if you see me in town, jersey on, nachos in hand, maybe even a puppy on a leash, just know—I’m still One Paddle Short, but still rowing around town.
