Sunday Recipes W/ Margi Kyle: Brownie in a Mug
- Sunday Recipes

Labor Day Weekend may signal the unofficial end of summer, but Lake Norman is sending the season out with plenty of family fun. Explore a giant corn maze, sample your way through a downtown food-truck festival, enjoy free outdoor music and make the most of the long holiday weekend.
Saturday and Sunday, September 5–6 | 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Historic Rural Hill | 4431 Neck Road, Huntersville
Opening weekend has arrived for Rural Hill’s five-acre corn maze, featuring more than two miles of interconnected paths. This year’s design celebrates Rural Hill’s Scottish roots with a bagpiper and Highland cow theme. Families can work together to locate game stations while finding their way through the maze.
This is more than an ordinary weekend outing. Rural Hill turns the beginning of fall into a full family adventure, with children and adults sharing the challenge—and probably taking turns deciding which way to go.
The attraction includes much more than the maze. Rural Hill is advertising tractor-pulled hayrides, Highland cows, a pumpkin patch, food trucks and bounce houses. Free parking is available.
Saturday, September 5 | 5:00–8:30 p.m.
Broad and Main Streets | Downtown Mooresville
Downtown Mooresville becomes a food lover’s block party as more than 15 food trucks line Broad and Main streets. The evening also includes family fun and live music from the Coconut Groove Band, which performs a wide variety of classic rock.
Everyone in the family can choose something different—and nobody has to cook. The combination of food, music and Downtown Mooresville’s atmosphere makes this feel like a community festival rather than simply a place to grab dinner.
Expect food trucks from throughout the Charlotte–Lake Norman region serving meals, snacks, desserts and frozen treats. Live music and the downtown social district add to the street-festival atmosphere.
Saturday, September 5 | 5:00–9:00 p.m.
Jetton Street near Clean Juice | 605-D Jetton Street, Davidson
Davidson’s Concerts @ the Circles series continues with an evening performance by Rivermist. An acoustic opening act performs from 5:00–6:30 p.m., followed by Rivermist from 7:00–9:00 p.m.
Closing an entire downtown block transforms this from a simple outdoor concert into a relaxed community gathering. Families can bring chairs, enjoy the music and spend the evening together in Davidson’s small-town atmosphere.
Rivermist performs a crowd-friendly variety of music designed to get people dancing. The event is free, informal and family-friendly, with nearby Davidson businesses offering plenty of choices for dinner, snacks or dessert.
Friday, September 4 | 6:30–8:30 p.m.
Liberty Park | 255 East Iredell Avenue, Mooresville
Start Labor Day Weekend with a free outdoor concert celebrating the biggest rock and pop hits of the 1980s. The Big ’80s Tribute Band brings guitars, keyboards, familiar songs and plenty of throwback energy to Liberty Park. Food trucks will also be available.
Parents and grandparents will recognize the music, while the outdoor setting makes it easy to bring the entire family. It is a fun and affordable way to begin the holiday weekend.
Expect a lively, nostalgic performance filled with recognizable ’80s rock and pop favorites, along with food vendors and a relaxed community-concert atmosphere.
Start Friday evening with an ’80s party at Liberty Park, tackle the Rural Hill Corn Maze Saturday or Sunday, and choose between food trucks in Mooresville or live music in Davidson on Saturday evening.
Whether your family is ready to get lost in a maze, dance in the street or discover a new favorite food truck, Lake Norman offers plenty of ways to say goodbye to summer and welcome the beginning of fall.
