LKNConnect Operating System: Chapter 16 – Part 2 – Video Production & Interview Standards

Production Standards & Publishing Workflow

Video Production Standards

Every LKNConnect video should reflect the professionalism and credibility of our Media Network.

Our production standards ensure consistency across every show, interview, and contributor.

Video Format

All videos should be recorded using the following standards:

  • Horizontal Format (16:9)
  • MP4 Preferred
  • 1920 × 1080 HD minimum
  • Higher resolutions encouraged when available

Record Once. Distribute Everywhere.

Every interview should be suitable for:

  • LKNConnect.com
  • Facebook
  • Facebook Stories
  • Instagram
  • YouTube
  • Podcasts (when appropriate)
  • Future promotional campaigns

One recording should create multiple visibility opportunities.

Camera Standards

Whenever possible:

  • Camera at eye level
  • Mid-chest framing
  • Stable camera position
  • Professional composition
  • Guest positioned comfortably

Avoid distracting camera movement.

The viewer should focus on the conversation—not the camera.

Lighting Standards

Good lighting creates credibility.

Whenever possible:

  • Face a window
  • Use soft front lighting
  • Avoid harsh shadows
  • Avoid strong backlighting

Natural lighting is often the best choice.

Audio Standards

Poor audio can ruin an excellent interview.

Always:

  • Record in a quiet location.
  • Minimize background noise.
  • Silence phones and notifications.
  • Speak naturally and clearly.
  • Test microphones before recording.

Viewers will often tolerate average video.

They rarely tolerate poor audio.

Background Standards

The background should support the story.

Choose locations that are:

  • Clean
  • Professional
  • Relevant
  • Uncluttered

Whenever appropriate, incorporate elements that reinforce the guest’s business or organization.

The setting should add context—not distraction.

B-Roll Standards

Every interview should include supporting footage.

Capture:

  • Business exterior
  • Business interior
  • Products
  • Services
  • Employees
  • Customers (with permission)
  • Equipment
  • Demonstrations
  • Community activity
  • Scenic footage

Whenever possible capture:

5–10 B-roll clips

Each clip should generally be:

5–15 seconds

Good B-roll transforms interviews into visual stories.

Handling Mistakes

Mistakes happen.

When they do:

  • Pause.
  • Take a breath.
  • Wait three to five seconds.
  • Begin the sentence again.

Do not apologize.

Do not stop recording.

Small imperfections create authenticity.

Authenticity is more important than perfection.

Submission Package

Every completed interview should be submitted as one organized folder containing:

  • Interview Video
  • B-Roll Footage
  • Professional Guest Headshot (Required)
  • Professional Host Headshot (Required for recurring hosts)
  • Company Logo
  • Supporting Photographs
  • Episode Information Sheet

A complete submission package allows production to begin immediately.

Guest Photography Standards

Every featured guest should provide a professional-quality headshot whenever possible.

The preferred photograph should be:

  • Current
  • High resolution
  • Sharp
  • Well lit
  • Professional
  • Representative of the guest

If a professional headshot is unavailable, a high-quality portrait may be substituted.

The guest’s photograph becomes an important part of the article, promotional graphics, social media campaign, and future marketing.

Host Photography Standards

Every recurring LKNConnect host should maintain a professional headshot.

Host photographs should be:

  • Consistent
  • Current
  • High resolution
  • Well lit
  • Professionally presented

Consistent host branding strengthens both the individual and the LKNConnect Media Network.

Supporting Photography

Whenever possible include additional photographs that help tell the story.

Examples include:

  • Business exterior
  • Business interior
  • Staff
  • Products
  • Services
  • Community activities
  • Event photographs
  • Historic images
  • Company logo

The more visual assets available, the more opportunities exist to build visibility.

Post-Production Standards

Every completed interview should receive professional post-production.

Typical editing includes:

  • Opening branding
  • Closing branding
  • Lower-third titles
  • Guest identification
  • Appropriate transitions
  • Audio balancing
  • Color correction when needed
  • Background music when appropriate

Editing should enhance the conversation—not distract from it.

Publishing Workflow

One interview should produce multiple pieces of content.

Typical deliverables include:

  • Website Article
  • Premium Lead Image
  • Social Media Graphic
  • Story Graphic
  • Published Interview Video
  • 30-Word Promotional Post
  • First Comment
  • Five Hashtags

One interview becomes many opportunities for visibility.

Quality Control

Before publication verify:

✓ Video quality

✓ Audio quality

✓ Guest identification

✓ Business information

✓ Correct spelling

✓ Professional graphics

✓ Proper branding

✓ Links and contact information

✓ Overall presentation

Every published interview represents the LKNConnect brand.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Never:

  • Dominate the conversation.
  • Read every question.
  • Interrupt your guest.
  • Rush the interview.
  • Ignore follow-up opportunities.
  • Record poor audio.
  • Use distracting backgrounds.
  • Publish without review.

Remember:

Preparation creates confidence.

Confidence creates better interviews.

The LKNConnect Difference

Many interviews simply promote businesses.

LKNConnect introduces people.

We tell the stories behind the businesses.

We celebrate the people who make Lake Norman special.

We build trust before promotion.

Our viewers should feel like they have just met someone they would enjoy talking with over a cup of coffee.

That feeling creates lasting relationships.

Key Takeaways

  • Preparation creates confidence.
  • Great conversations build trust.
  • Good audio is essential.
  • Professional photography strengthens every interview.
  • Every interview should create multiple visibility opportunities.
  • Every video should educate, inspire, and connect.
  • Authenticity is more important than perfection.

Our Guiding Principles

We Lead with Value.

We Earn Trust.

We Help Local Businesses Grow.

Every interview we produce should reflect these three principles.

They are the foundation of the LKNConnect Media Network and the reason our interviews feel different from traditional promotional videos.

When viewers trust the conversation, they naturally trust the people, businesses, and organizations we introduce to our community.
