Every Saturday, LKNConnect introduces you to one special rescue pet searching for something every animal deserves—a safe, loving forever home.
Some pets lose their families because of illness or the passing of an owner. Others find themselves in rescue through circumstances beyond their control. Whatever brought them here, their next chapter can be filled with love, comfort and companionship.
That’s the purpose behind LKNConnect Rescue Pet of the Week.
Working closely with AnimalCity and Piedmont Animal Rescue, we share the stories of remarkable rescue animals with the Lake Norman community in hopes of making that one important connection—the person or family who sees a face, reads a story and says, “That’s the one.”
Whether it’s a dog, cat, rabbit, hamster, bird or another deserving companion animal, every featured pet has one thing in common: they’re waiting for someone to love.
This week, we’d like you to meet Esme. And we have a feeling she just might steal your heart.
Esme is a darling pup weighing about 50 pounds. At about a year and a half old, she’s past the “young puppy phase” but still young and playful.
Esme is wonderfully affectionate and people-oriented. She loves being close to her humans and enjoys playing with other dogs. She tends to be more submissive and good natured, making her a great doggy playmate. Esme is nervous around men and kids, so she is looking for a female-only home where she can feel safe and comfortable. She does really well with both dogs and cats, making her a great fit for a multi-pet home.
Esme is playful, smart, and eager to learn. She does well crated at night, settling in quickly without too much fuss. She has mastered the doggie door at her foster home and lets her people know when it’s time to go potty. As a young dog, she’ll continue to do best with a consistent routine, and she’s already proving how quick and willing she is to learn. She also walks beautifully on a leash and loves car rides.
