All Around the Lake Community Citizenship Award is LKNConnect’s way of recognizing extraordinary citizens in the Lake Norman region each month. Margi Kyle, our director of non-profits, interviews Wes Choplin, our outstanding citizen for September 2020. — EH Stafford, Managing Editor

Wes Choplin is making an impact in the Lake Norman community

Wes Choplin of Choplin’s Steak and Seafood is helping by providing lunches to children in our community. One of the programs that he provides approximately 50 lunches per day for is Make an Impact’s Camp Edvantage. In total he is providing 700 to 800 lunches per week.

JoAnn and Courtney are volunteers who help plate the lunches.

“I’m not working and I like to keep busy.” — JoAnn, lunch plating volunteer

“I have a flexible schedule and I like to help.” — Courtney, lunch plating volunteer

Camp Edvantage

Camp Edvantage is a program that provides a safe environment for children to receive their education while classroom teaching is closed. There are children on a waiting list but due to lack of supervisory volunteers the program cannot expand. Please consider helping … you don’t teach, just supervise to keep the children focused on school work. Anyone high school age and older can volunteer. For more information, please go to: or call Char at Choplin’s (704) 892-4800.
