Growing up in Italy means being part of the world’s most biodiverse country, traveling just 20 miles from wherever you are and finding a completely different landscape, food, people and, of course, wine!
With 1300 native grapes and 20 regions in which they are grown, we have the merit of being the first country in wine production and varietals!
Just to understand the difference between us and second place, let’s say that it is double in size but only has 320 native grapes… sorry to all my French friends out there!
From the foggy vineyards in the Piedmont mountains to the sun-drenches hills of Sicily, every region claims to make the best wine, and frankly they’re all right: Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Barbera, the unrelenting Brunello, or the flirtatious Nero D’Avola all are terroir specific and a source of regional pride.
How could you eat a Bistecca Fiorentina with home-grown vegetables, all in a beautiful spring day deep in the Chianti hills, smelling the ever present sage and rosemary bushes, without enjoying a glass of Chianti Classico?
Yes, Italy is wine, food, terroir, and ancient cities, but our biggest wonder is our passion and love as a people.
You don’t eat to get full, you don’t drink to get drunk, but you live to share your experiences with the people you love.

Born in Rome, Italy, Guido Lombardi developed a deep appreciation for fine wine and Italian tradition from an early age. In 2015, he brought that passion to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he founded Impero Wine NC. His mission is to introduce the richness and authenticity of true Italian wines to local tables, offering a curated selection that reflects the diverse regions and flavors of his homeland. Through Impero Wine, Guido shares not just wine, but the stories, culture, and craftsmanship behind every bottle.
