Who Are We?
Lake Norman Humane is a non-profit 501©3 no-kill animal rescue and community education center in Mooresville, NC. Lake Norman Humane (LKNH) is the only licensed animal rescue in Mooresville and surrounding areas. We pride ourselves rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing animals in need and giving them a second chance for a wonderful life.
Our Team:
LKNH is comprised of a Volunteer Executive Board, four staff members (Director of Operations- Emily Beebe, Community/PetSmart Coordinator- Bethany Billham, Building/Social Media Coordinator- Mackenzie Babij, and Client Care Coordiantor- Luann McInnerney), and over 80 active volunteers. Our volunteers are the blood line of our organization! Through their generosity and volunteer hours, they make it possible for us to save and care for our animals.
Our Animals:
LKNH intakes animals in need from over 15 municipal shelters throughout North and South Carolina. We prioritize intaking animals at risk of euthanasia due to space constraints, medical, or behavioral concerns. While we do intake owner surrenders due to lifestyle changes, behavior needs, or other factors; our goal is to focus on intaking animals at risk of euthanasia.
Disaster Relief:
LKNH Director Emily Beebe was approached by Best Friends Society in 2017 during Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma for help with animals displaced from shelters during disaster times. In September 2017 LKNH went on our first disaster transport and brought in 42 animals that were displaced during Hurricane Irma. In 2018 LKNH brought in 39 animals displaced during Hurricane Michael. In May of 2019 LKNH was able to bring in their first international pulls and brought in 5 animals from China and Taiwan who were freed from slaughterhouses and the Yulin festival.
Disaster/Emergency relief has become a core part of our rescue and our mission and we are honored and privileged to be able to help.
