This weekend offers three distinctly different ways for families to spend time together—dancing and discovering, skating and watching a movie under the stars, or enjoying one final summer concert.
Here are our top three family activities around Lake Norman for August 28–30.
Saturday, August 29 • 12:00–12:30 p.m.
105 Gilead Road, Huntersville
This is more than an activity for the children—it gives parents and children an opportunity to move, laugh and participate together. The dance party combines music, movement and storytelling in a welcoming environment designed especially for younger children.
Once the dancing ends, families can continue exploring everything Discovery Place Kids has to offer, turning a 30-minute program into a complete afternoon adventure.
Bella Ballerina instructors lead children through an upbeat, literacy-based dance experience. Parents remain with their children and are welcome to join the movement and fun.
Families can also enjoy the museum’s imaginative play areas, hands-on exhibits, puppet shows, storytimes and live science activities.
The Bella Ballerina Dance Party is included with regular museum admission.
Purchasing admission online in advance provides the lowest price.

Friday, August 28
Roller skating: 6:00 p.m. • Food trucks: 7:30 p.m. • Movie: 8:30 p.m.
Liberty Park, 255 E. Iredell Avenue, Mooresville
This is not simply a movie in the park. Families can begin the evening roller skating, choose dinner or treats from the food trucks and then settle in for a free movie under the stars.
It creates an entire evening experience, with something for active children, hungry families and everyone who enjoys an outdoor movie.
Roller skating begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by food trucks and beverages at 7:30 p.m. The featured movie, GOAT, begins at 8:30 p.m.
The PG-rated animated film follows a small goat with big dreams who receives an opportunity to compete in “roarball,” a high-energy sport dominated by much larger and fiercer animals.

Friday, August 28 • 6:00–8:00 p.m.
The Plaza at Birkdale Village, Huntersville
A free outdoor concert provides an easy way for the entire family to relax, dance and enjoy dinner together. Kids in America brings the energy and familiar music of the 1980s, giving parents a little nostalgia while introducing younger family members to the songs they grew up hearing.
This performance is especially meaningful because it is the final Live Under the Oaks concert of the 2026 season.
Kids in America will perform an energetic collection of popular ’80s music in The Plaza. Families can dance near the stage, enjoy the atmosphere or purchase dinner from one of Birkdale Village’s restaurants.
