The LKNConnect Guide to Family Weekend Activities Around Lake Norman: Three Ways to Enjoy the Weekend with the Family.

Guide to Family Activities Around Lake Norman

The final weekend of August offers families three different ways to enjoy time together around Lake Norman—roller-skating and watching a movie under the stars, dancing to familiar ’80s music or spending a relaxed Saturday morning supporting local growers and vendors.

Here are our three recommended family activities for August 28–30.

1. WHEELS & REELS FEATURING GOAT

Liberty Park — Mooresville

Friday, August 28
Roller-skating: 6:00 p.m. • Food vendors: 7:30 p.m. • Movie: 8:30 p.m.
Liberty Park, 255 E. Iredell Avenue, Mooresville

Why We Like It

This is much more than a movie in the park. Families can begin the evening roller-skating, enjoy dinner or treats from the food vendors and then settle in together for a free movie under the stars.

With active fun, food and family entertainment all in one place, Wheels & Reels offers a complete Friday-night experience.

What to Expect

Outdoor roller-skating begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by food vendors at 7:30 p.m. The evening concludes with a free outdoor showing of GOAT at 8:30 p.m.

The PG-rated animated movie follows a small goat with big dreams who receives a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete in “roarball,” a high-energy sport dominated by much larger and fiercer animals.

Special Information

  • Admission is free
  • Bring your own roller skates
  • Bring blankets or lawn chairs for the movie
  • Food and beverages will be available for purchase
  • Arrive early to select a comfortable viewing location
  • The event is open to residents and visitors

2. LIVE UNDER THE OAKS SEASON FINALE

Kids in America at Birkdale Village

Friday, August 28 • 6:00–8:00 p.m.
The Plaza at Birkdale Village, Huntersville

Why We Like It

A free outdoor concert gives parents and children an easy way to relax, dance and enjoy dinner together. Kids in America brings the energy and familiar music of the 1980s, offering parents a little nostalgia while introducing younger family members to the songs they grew up hearing.

This performance is especially meaningful because it is the final Live Under the Oaks concert of the 2026 season.

What to Expect

Kids in America will perform an energetic collection of popular ’80s music in The Plaza. Families can dance near the stage, spread out a blanket, bring lawn chairs or purchase dinner from one of Birkdale Village’s restaurants.

Special Information

  • The concert is free
  • No tickets or reservations are required
  • Bring lawn chairs or blankets
  • Coolers are not permitted
  • Seating space may be limited
  • Parking is available in nearby garages and surface lots
  • The event is subject to cancellation or postponement because of weather

Birkdale’s Concierge can collect prepaid food orders from participating restaurants at no additional charge. Arrangements must be made with Concierge by 4:00 p.m. Friday.

3. HUNTERSVILLE GROWERS’ MARKET

Final Market of the 2026 Season

Saturday, August 29 • 8:00 a.m.–noon
Veterans Park at Main and Maxwell Streets, Huntersville

Why We Like It

A Saturday morning at the market gives families an opportunity to slow down, shop locally and introduce children to the people who grow and create products within their community.

Because this is the final Huntersville Growers’ Market of the season, it is also one last opportunity to support the participating growers and vendors before the market closes for the year.

What to Expect

Families can stroll through the open-air market and shop for locally grown produce and other offerings from area growers and vendors. Its downtown Huntersville location also makes it easy to extend the morning with breakfast, coffee or another nearby family stop.

Special Information

  • Admission is free
  • The market is open from 8:00 a.m.–noon
  • This is the final market of the 2026 season
  • The market is held outdoors
  • Product and vendor availability may vary
  • Arriving earlier provides the best selection

Location: Veterans Park, 201 Huntersville-Concord Road, at the corner of Main and Maxwell Streets in Huntersville.
