Fantasy Football with Frank Ober Week 1

Week One NFL Season

The long-awaited start to the 2024 – 2025 NFL season is finally here.  Each week, I will help you manage your lineup by suggesting players to start who might not be regular starters and provide potential sleepers.  I am not going to include players that are automatic starts such as RB Christian McCaffrey and WR CeeDee Lamb.  As the season progresses, I will recommend waiver wire pickups and players to potentially drop.

Players to Start Week 1

QB: Jared Goff (Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Rams)

Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins vs. Jacksonville Jaguars)

RB: Najee Harris (Pittsburgh Steelers at Atlanta Falcons)

Javonte Williams (Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks)

WR: Jameson Williams (Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Rams)

Khalil Shakir (Buffalo Bills vs. Arizona Cardinals)

TE: Brock Bowers (Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers)

Deep Sleeper – Colby Parkinson (Los Angeles Rams at Detroit Lions)

PK: Cairo Santos (Chicago Bears vs. Tennessee Titans)

Cameron Dicker (Los Angeles Chargers vs. Las Vegas Raiders)

DF: New Orleans Saints (vs. Carolina Panthers)

Chicago Bears (vs. Tennessee Titans)

Kansas City Chiefs (-3.0) vs. Baltimore Ravens

What a great game to start the season.  The Ravens lost their defensive coordinator and a couple of key defenders but picked up RB Derrick Henry.  The Chiefs gave QB Patrick Mahomes a new toy in WR Xavier Worthy.  A close game but take the home team minus the points.

Los Angeles Rams (+3.5) at Detroit Lions

This is a rematch of a wild card playoff game from last year that the Lions won 24 – 23.  It matches QBs Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff who were traded for each other.  I anticipate a close game and expect the Lions to win but I will take the underdog with the points.

San Francisco 49ers (-3.5) vs. New York Jets

The Jets defense was one of the best in 2023.  QB Aaron Rodgers only made it through 4 plays before getting hurt last season and his last full season in Green Bay was not that great.  The 49ers may be missing LT Trent Williams.  This would be a huge loss but take the 49ers minus the points in their home opener against a talented Jets team.
