Greg & Katy Law and The Story Behind The Dream Team and the Passion Driving their Success
As the Lake Norman area continues to grow and thrive, local businesses have become the backbone of our beloved community. Among these vibrant businesses is Sweet Dreams Furniture and Mattress founded by owners Greg & Katy Law who opened their first store on November 4th of 2002. Twenty-two years later, their company – with a firm foundation of faith, hard work and determination — grew from a 4-person family owned “dream” to a well-known community business employing thirty people at FOUR different locations around the Lake Norman area — one in Denver, one in Cornelius and two in Mooresville.
Whether you just bought a house or you want to redecorate – Sweet Dreams has quality furniture that will brighten any room in your home – a fabulous selection with a variety of styles.
“Many happy customers have commented that they have driven around the state of North Carolina only to find exactly what they’ve been looking for right here in our neighborhood stores!” states Greg Law.
Need a new mattress? Sweet Dreams has a huge array of choices and sizes – many have ‘game changer adjustable bases’ that enhance relaxation and reward your body with elegant comfort. Whether you want a standard twin mattress, a queen or a king size with all of the ‘bells and whistles’ – Sweet Dreams is the place to find it.
“Our design team hand picks styles of furniture that look great in homes around our area,” states Greg Law. “We display them beautifully so you can touch, feel, and visualize them in your home; plus, we keep them in stock and ready to rock for fast 5 Star Delivery!”
“Our vision is to help as many people as possible achieve their dreams and that starts with each member of our ‘Dream Team’.”
Greg and Katy Law have a personal motto that they incorporate into their Sweet Dreams Family –Work Hard, Play Hard, Serve Others and Grow!
The Sweet Dreams Sales Team is united in their philosophy about helping customers find the perfect furniture or mattress to make their homes comfortable and inviting – this also includes welcoming new babies to supporting the needs of the elderly.
“Sweet Dreams is more than a family-owned business,” declares Jimmy Hurtado (a proud member of The Dream Team.) “ It’s a place where employees are treated like family and where the community always comes first. After nearly 19 amazing years here, I can proudly say I’d do this journey all over again. When I walk through those doors each day, it doesn’t feel like working for someone else—it feels like working for my own family.”
In addition to 13 talented Sales Team members, there are three in the admin office and 14 dedicated employees on the Warehouse and Delivery Team. These delivery Dream Team individuals are amazing. They take great care as they carry and set up the new furniture in your home – and always with a smile!
“I joined the Dream Team because I strongly believe in their core values, and where else can you say ‘We’ve got STOCK and ready to ROCK,” says Libra Pitts. “I love it when customers send us pictures after delivery of their newly decorated room!”
Periodically during the year, the Laws gather The Team for a training session. Not only does this keep the sales team united and consistent as a group – it also educates them about the nuances and special perks of items sold at Sweet Dreams.
Recently, Sleep Coach and Director of Training for Bedgear Meagan Murphy gave fundamental instructions on the power of the pillow and the importance of sleep ecosystem as a whole. “She is a certified sleep coach and has certified our team on how to professionally fit people with the right pillow for their needs,” claims co-owner Katy Law.
During the session, she also emphasized the importance of a mattress protector. “You can’t wash your mattress!” Murphy added with a smile.
Bedgear is the industry leader in performance bedding including pillows, sheets and protectors that maximize sleep so that individuals can achieve their dreams during the day!
Sweet Dreams has won the coveted Normy Award for TEN consecutive years for BEST MATTRESS STORE and for the past TWO years for BEST FURNITURE STORE. This speaks volumes as to how the Lake Norman Community feels about Sweet Dreams Furniture and Mattress.
When customers enter a Sweet Dreams store, they instantly witness the warmth and dedication from the employees who are professional, friendly and well trained. Many repeat customers claim that they do not shop anywhere else for their home furnishing desires.
Sweet Dreams makes shopping for furniture simple, easy and fun! Customers can bring in pictures of the room they wish to redecorate and share it with the sales team OR a sales person will go to their home for up to ONE hour for FREE and put together virtual rooms for the customer.
“We now can scale out a room to the square inch and show the customer exactly what the furniture will look like in their home,” states owner Greg Law. “We call this our new Dream Room Planner and just another way we help people ‘Love Where They Live’!”
“I love serving the people of Lake Norman shoulder to shoulder with the Dream Team,” claims Andy Schlesser – a.k.a. Mattman – a well-known figure in the area. Locals call him the Sweet Dreams ‘hero.’ However, Mattman says, “My co-workers are the real super heroes!”
The Laws believe in helping others — it is the foundation of their business and personal lives.
Sweet Dreams is well known for giving back to the community. In addition to being a “drop off” location for those in need in the Western Carolina area after Hurricane Helene, the company also supports local charities and organizations including a sponsorship (and vendor) at the Lowes YMCA 4th of July Celebration and Fireworks, Bags of Hope, The Christian Mission, Dove House, FeedNC, RocSolid Foundation, Angels of ’97, The Exchange Club, National Charity League, No Child Hungry, and Returning Smiles (a non-profit charity created by one of Sweet Dreams managers Jimmy Hurtado.) Sweet Dreams has also helped furnish thousands of mattresses for foster families, veterans and those in need through Called2Care and Dreams4All Foundations.
Throughout the year, Sweet Dreams hosts customer appreciation parties and gatherings in support of other small businesses in the Lake Norman area.
“At Sweet Dreams,” says Greg Law, “we are hyper-local or as we like to say, ‘Loco For Local’!” Together, the husband and wife team adds, “We believe Lake Norman is the greatest community on earth! We love where we live & work and we love to help others feel the same!”
Sweet Dreams is the perfect example of why residents – especially residents of a small town — all benefit when they shop and support local businesses. As the business grows, they give back to the community! In other words – shop local – it is what makes your community strong.
