WellBEing Wins w/ Debbey Woodruff:  Mind Movie: Create a Commercial of Your Future Life

Creating a Mind Movie with Debbey Woodruff

Ouch! Mary winced, pulling her elbow away from the corner she’d just slammed into.
“Figures,” she muttered. “Just my luck… like everything else in my life.”

Scenes replayed in her mind. Her life felt monochromatic—each day a repeat of the last. And now, to top it off, she’d learned that morning that part of her job would soon be outsourced to AI. Her dreams of a fun, adventurous future—traveling the world, living fully—felt increasingly elusive.

“This sucks,” she thought. “I feel awful.”

Hoping to shake the heaviness, Mary wandered into the library, looking for escape. Serendipitously, a free workshop was about to begin: Creating Your Mind Movie.

What is a mind movie?

A mind movie is a multimedia vision board—think of it as a commercial for your future life. Using principles of modern marketing psychology, it pairs music with vivid three-dimensional scenes and layered words to represent the experiences, relationships, and emotions you want to create.

How to create a mind movie*:

  1. Collect visuals (videos, images) that represent what you want—e.g., career, relationships, health, finances.
  2. Choose a song that inspires and emotionally supports your vision.
  3. Select words that capture how you want to feel (confident, secure, adventurous).
  4. Combine them into a short video. Let the music play as visuals flow in and out, layering your words over the scenes where they resonate most.
  5. Keep it brief—about 2–3 minutes. Honor copyrights.

Incorporating mind movies into your life:

Consistency is key. Each viewing activates neurotransmitters that help wire your brain to respond to the movie’s message.

Keep it accessible on your phone or computer. Listen to the song throughout the day to reconnect with the feeling. Place your words where you’ll see them often.

You’re most impressionable when relaxed**, so watch it first thing in the morning and again before sleep. To deepen the effect, engage your senses—imagine the sights, sounds, textures, and even scents of your envisioned life.

Why it works:

Like a powerful commercial, it creates an emotional imprint. With repetition, that imprint strengthens. Your brain recognizes the pattern as important and reinforces the neural pathways.

From there, the subconscious takes over—quietly aligning your thoughts, emotions, and actions with the vision you’ve created. Over time, you may find yourself naturally moving toward the life you’ve been rehearsing.
