I was pretty keen on the idea because it’s one of my favorite places to eat! I immediately had visions of their amazing corn bread and how I could devour the whole thing with my hands — you know — like a hungry raccoon! But I promised her I wouldn’t do that. (Not in public anyway.)
As soon as we walked in, I felt that familiar warm cozy feeling. The decor is so inviting, and the lights are dimmed a little and I could smell the food from the kitchen. Which reminded me that they have a hickory wood-fired grill and everything is fresh. They don’t even have freezers! Our friendly server explained the menu choices for the afternoon being Regular or Sunday Brunch. Wow, what a selection!
We both agreed on a popular appetizer from the main menu. Right away, the second it was placed on the table — I don’t know where my manners went because I was sooo double dipping, I couldn’t help myself! After all, we did order the two-dip plate that includes a sharp cheddar cheese with fire roasted peppers dip along with their homemade guacamole served with warm fresh tortilla chips. It’s actually called “Double Dip” on the menu. So really, in my defense, I was only following instructions … right? Well, we both double dipped our way to a clean plate and as I was totally ready to settle in for a long winters nap — I mean lunch and then maybe a nap, the entrées we chose from the main menu were served.
If I had to bet on who had the better plate, I simply couldn’t do it. Because between the Grilled Chicken and Ribs with barbecue sauce and the side of quinoa salad and green beans that I chose versus her Linguine Limón with shrimp, chicken and spinach with a side of braised cabbage — I seriously couldn’t decide which was better. They were both amazing, I already had BBQ sauce on my face the first bite in.
The portions were generous which meant I had leftovers in my future. That’s good because I could see my inner raccoon coming out later in the middle of the night while I’m in my pajamas roaming through the refrigerator. YEP, I might be waking up tomorrow with barbecue sauce on my pajamas! Raccoons wear pajamas — right?
