Dressing for the office seems to be so much easier during the cooler months of the year. Blazers, sweaters and long sleeve shirts are easy “Go To”s.
Wearing too little, looking more casual than you want, and trying to feel comfortable, is a real battle. I’m here to help you create a summer work wardrobe that will have you feeling elevated and still cool and comfortable.
A long sleeve linen dress allows you to feel put together and professional while feeling cool in this breathable material. Having it long sleeve allows you to still cover up if you are more comfortable in the office like that or you can roll them up to give a causal look for those dress down Fridays.
Linen pants are a great alternative to the classic dark colored dressy trouser. Swap them out for a cool breathable linen pant in white, tan, cream or even navy. These pants can be worn many different ways with many different business or casual looks.
This is the time of year when I break out my white large Chanel sunglasses. The oversized shape is still very classy but the color adds a bit of lightness and airiness to your look. Change out your handbags from a dark color to a lighter one or one with a bit more texture. Watches with a lighter face are great for this time of year.
It’s the time of year to let your legs breathe. If you feel like you don’t want to show your untanned legs, then get a spray tan or use a self-tanner. Guys — stop wearing the dark, thick dress socks. Switch to a lighter color thinner dress sock.
Whether you are a male or female, a light fabric shirt is a key piece to your summer wardrobe. Light weight cotton poplin, linen, and silks are a great choice when purchasing shirts for the workplace. Stay away from polyesters or poly blends because they make you sweat.
Many offices have become more casual and allow their employees to wear a more casual shoe. If this is your office then goo for a cute espadrille sandal shoe, loafer or leather candle. [Feature photo above.] If not, then I suggest a small kitten heel, a Gucci style flat loafer or even a heel from Sam Edelman which are the most comfortable that I’ve found. I’m a huge fan of them.
