Active Life Around the Lake: Turn an Ordinary Day into an Active Adventure:

Active Life Around Lake Norman

Living an active life doesn’t require a gym membership, an elaborate fitness plan or a strenuous workout. Sometimes it begins by choosing an enjoyable place, stepping outside and moving at your own pace.

Around Lake Norman, each community offers its own way to get moving. This week, we’re visiting three towns and exploring three very different experiences: mountain biking at Mazeppa Park in Mooresville, outdoor fitness at Parham Park in Davidson and waterfront walking at Jetton Park in Cornelius.

Whether you’re searching for adventure, building strength and flexibility or simply enjoying a relaxing walk beside the lake, there is an active experience waiting for you.

Mazeppa Park — Mooresville

Begin in Mooresville with an activity that can be as challenging—or as relaxed—as you choose.

Mazeppa Park is one of Mooresville’s major outdoor recreation destinations. Along with its extensive athletic facilities, the park features approximately six miles of mountain-bike trails.

The wooded trail system includes sweeping turns, berms and several rock gardens, with terrain intended to appeal to riders of different experience levels. Confident cyclists can seek out more technical sections, while recreational riders can slow the pace and enjoy being outdoors.

Mountain biking engages the legs, core and upper body while also requiring balance and concentration. But the greatest attraction may be its sense of adventure. A wooded trail can make exercise feel less like a scheduled workout and more like an opportunity to explore.

Bring your bicycle, helmet and water, and always observe posted trail conditions and closures before riding.

Why We Like It

Mazeppa Park gives active visitors a genuine sense of adventure. The wooded setting and changing terrain make the experience feel more like exploring than exercising.

What to Expect

Approximately six miles of mountain-bike trails featuring sweeping turns, berms and several rock gardens. Riders can select a comfortable pace, but helmets and basic trail awareness are essential.

Special Features

Mazeppa is also a major Mooresville athletic complex with soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball facilities, along with parking, restrooms and concessions.

Parham Park — Davidson

Our next stop takes us to Davidson and one of the community’s smaller hidden gems.

Parham Park is a five-acre natural area located along Lake Cornelius. Its natural-surface trail offers a comfortable place to walk, but the park also includes 14 outdoor exercise stations designed to help visitors improve strength and flexibility.

You don’t have to use every station or complete a formal circuit. Walk the trail, try a few movements that feel comfortable and take time to enjoy the surroundings.

One person can walk the trail, another can use the exercise stations and younger family members can enjoy the playground. Bring lunch, and the outing becomes an easy active break in the middle of the day.

Why We Like It

This peaceful five-acre park allows people of different ages and abilities to remain active together. There is something here for walkers, paddlers, children and visitors interested in outdoor fitness.

What to Expect

A natural-surface walking trail in a shaded lakeside setting, along with 14 outdoor stations designed to improve strength and flexibility.

Special Features

Parham Park provides public access for personal watercraft, plus a small lawn, playground and picnic areas. There are no public restrooms at the park, so plan before arriving.

Jetton Park — Cornelius

Finish your active journey beside the water at Jetton Park in Cornelius.

This approximately 105-acre waterfront park offers paved and natural-surface paths through shaded wooded areas and along Lake Norman. Together, the park’s trails provide approximately 2.8 miles of walking opportunities.

You don’t have to complete the entire distance. Choose a comfortable route, stop at a waterfront bench or bring a friend and make conversation part of the walk.

If you want a little more movement, alternate a few minutes at a comfortable pace with several minutes of slightly faster walking. If you prefer a relaxed outing, simply enjoy the scenery and allow the movement to happen naturally.

Why We Like It

Jetton Park combines movement with some of Lake Norman’s most relaxing waterfront scenery. It is equally suitable for a purposeful walk or an unhurried outing with family and friends.

What to Expect

Approximately 2.8 miles of paved and natural-surface paths winding through shaded woods and along the shoreline. Visitors can choose a short loop or continue for a longer walk.

Special Features

The park includes waterfront overlooks, picnic areas, playgrounds, tennis courts and plenty of places to stop and enjoy the lake. The beach is intended for sunning and lake views—not swimming.

Three Towns—One Active Lifestyle

Mazeppa Park, Parham Park and Jetton Park prove that staying active doesn’t have to mean doing the same workout every day.

You can challenge yourself on a mountain-bike trail in Mooresville, combine walking with outdoor exercise in Davidson or slow down with a waterfront stroll in Cornelius. Visit all three, choose one for the day or explore a different park each week.

The objective isn’t to move faster than everyone else or complete every available mile. The goal is to discover an activity you enjoy enough to keep doing.

Sometimes the easiest way to become more active is to stop thinking of movement as exercise—and start treating it as part of a good day around Lake Norman.

Before visiting, check current park hours, trail conditions, regulations and facility availability.
