I give up! Is there ANYthing BoatYard Eats isn’t an ideal venue for? Doesn’t seem so. If you have a hankering for some warm food to fill your tummy, some local suds from the taps, and live music, then gather your friends or family and head out to BoatYard Eats.

Honoring the Past

My favorite part about the near 4-acre establishment on the corner of Westmoreland Rd and Hwy. 21 is the fact that it is located on a historic site; the building itself is the old Anchorage Marine Shop. Start looking around and you will notice hidden gems of the past peeking out everywhere. The stage is an old boat lift; the kids’ area features old fishing boats (safely converted to serve for make-believe crews and captains); and many of the tables themselves are constructed from repurposed relics from the past.

The site could have been a prime corner for an iconic, flashy several-story building, a national franchise restaurant, a busy retail market, or a strip mall … the possibilities are endless. But local owners Joe and David Stockwell of Old Swan Development envisioned something different. What started out as a rickety old shell of the shop has been transformed into a restaurant that honors Cornelius’ roots in a place we can celebrate for generations to come.

Open-Air and Al Fresco

Think outdoor patio area on steroids. You walk through the gates and have your pick of seemingly endless picnic tables, high tops, and anything in between. Send the kids over to adjoining play areas that doesn’t interfere with the “over 21” area close to the live music. There is seating indoors as well, but with the covered patio areas and umbrellas adorning just about every table, why would you want to?

Covered play area is a perfect spot for the kids or a photo op.

Let’s Eat!

First things first. Choose from an extensive line-up of local craft beers on draft, favorites in cans and bottles, varied wine, and a fully stocked bar; attentive bartenders are ready to concoct a cocktail that will quench your thirst for an adult beverage. Nightly you will find a rotation of the best food trucks so that there is always something new and interesting to sample. Or you can order form the well-rounded house menu that features appetizers, full meals, and flatbreads. With the nod to Western New York staples, such like chicken wings, roast beef ‘on weck’ and “Hoffman’s Hot Dog,” the appreciation for tradition continues.

Plenty of local craft beers are on tap at BYE.

There is something very relaxing about immense outdoor dining options on a warm fall evening under the stars with the sounds of children joyfully playing in perfect harmony with the tunes coming from the local musicians warming up the stage. The bubbling rosé I was served from the tap was the cherry on top of my sundae to put my mind at ease. I had to be reminded I wasn’t in the comfort of my own backyard; I was at BoatYard.

BYE serves nachos daily out of its kitchen or you can enjoy food from one of the food trucks on the patio. This means that every day you can sample a different cuisine!

Live Music

Out back on the stage is where the magic begins. Stockwell took an old boat lift and repurposed it into a stage, nodding to Cornelius’ past while creating a one-of-a-kind space. Bands are generally scheduled Friday and Saturday nights, and for well-known bands, such as DeCarlo and the Tim Clark Band, plan to come early and stake out your place close to the stage.
