Welcome to Neighbors 828: Where Everyone Feels Like Family

Walking into Neighbors 828, you immediately get the feeling that this isn’t just another restaurant—it’s a place where everyone is treated like family. When I first heard the name, I assumed it was a Christian nod to Romans 8:28. While the restaurant is indeed owned by Christians, the real inspiration behind the name comes from their deep-rooted love for the 828 area code and the strong sense of community that shaped them. And let me tell you, that theme runs deep—from the decor to the menu, and even to the way they treat their guests.

A Place That Feels Like Home

Ashton, the lead strategist and daughter of the owners, shared with me that growing up in a close-knit neighborhood taught them that friends often become family. That’s the feeling they wanted to bring to Neighbors 828, and they absolutely nailed it. Instead of throwing up TVs all over the place like many restaurants, they made the intentional choice to keep them only in the bar area. Why? Because dinner should be about conversation, connection, and togetherness. And you can feel that energy throughout the entire restaurant.

Even the decor is personal—many of the pieces around the space were taken from their childhood home, adding to the warm, nostalgic atmosphere. It’s not just about serving great food here; it’s about creating an experience that reminds you of home.

Ashton stated that “none of this would be possible without our amazing team, who put in a lot of hard work every day to create outstanding moments for our guests”.

The Pizza Man & His Craft

Let’s talk about the food! I had the pleasure of meeting Kenny Bradley, better known as “The Pizza Man.” When Ashton introduced us, she assured me he was the go-to guy for all things pizza, and she wasn’t wrong. When I asked Kenny the secret behind the incredible loaded baked potato pizza I was devouring, he grinned and said, “Pizza just isn’t right if it’s not tossed.” And after tasting it, I have to say—he’s definitely doing something right!

We also tried the “Hold the Kitchen Sink” pizza, which was just as amazing. And as if that wasn’t enough, they brought out a huge calzone and their Chicken Asiago Pasta that were to die for. You can tell they use fresh ingredients and cook everything to order, with love in every bite.

A Burger Worth Talking About

I also had the chance to try their burger, which Ashton told me is a fan favorite. Now, I’m usually a smashburger girl, but Steve was all in on this classic, fresh-made patty. When I asked what made their beef so special, I was thrilled to find out that they source it from Little Mountain Cattle Company. That’s the kind of local support I love to see!

Cocktails, Bread, and Local Love

Next up, I met Matt Della Penna, the bartender who is currently crafting a special spring cocktail list that I was told I’d just have to come back and try (twist my arm, why don’t you?). They have a few local beers on tap, but their wine and liquor selection is top-tier. Also, in keeping with their family-friendly vibe, there are no bar-height tables—making it easier for everyone to have a comfortable seat at the table.

Then there’s Tom O’Neill, originally known as “The Bread Man,” but now affectionately called “White Chocolate” by his bowling league (you’ll see it on his shirt in the picture). He’s the one behind their handmade focaccia, which I got to try with the pasta. And let me just say—chef’s kiss.

More Than Just Pizza and Pasta

While pizza and pasta are definitely highlights of the menu, Neighbors 828 offers so much more. Handmade appetizers, specialty sandwiches, and some of the best fries I’ve had since moving to North Carolina. Now, I’m a Fit Foodie, so fries don’t typically make the cut for me—but these? They were good for the soul. And let’s not forget the hand-breaded mozzarella sticks, which had a cheese pull that could make anyone weak in the knees.

The Heart of the Community

Beyond the food, what really makes Neighbors 828 special is their commitment to giving back. They offer discounts not only to first responders and military personnel but also to educators—something I love to see. And with their one-year anniversary coming up in April, they’re planning a block-party-style celebration to bring everyone together.

At the end of the day, Neighbors 828 isn’t just a place to grab a meal—it’s a place to connect, unwind, and feel like part of a family. Whether you’re stopping in for pizza, pasta, or a good conversation, one thing is certain: you’ll always be treated like a neighbor here.

So go check them out, bring the family, and if you see me there? Well, just know I’m probably giving in to those fries again!…mind your business.
