Steaks, Salad Bars, and Sweet Traditions: Lineberger’s Cattle Company is a Family Favorite

A Taste of Tradition

Walking into Lineberger’s Cattle Company feels like stepping back in time to an era when dining out was a real treat for the whole family. Located in Sherrills Ford, NC, this local steakhouse has been serving up mouthwatering meals for 52 years—a true testament to its staying power. Unlike the cookie-cutter chain steakhouses that dominate the industry today, Lineberger’s holds tight to old-school charm, from its rustic decor to the classic salad bar.

During my visit, I was lucky enough to chat with Amber Lurie, the General Manager, who filled me in on the restaurant’s history. Though ownership has changed hands a few times, the mission has remained the same: serving up quality food at family-friendly prices. That’s not something you see every day, especially in today’s economy. And let’s be real—where else are you going to find a steakhouse that still offers goldfish crackers on the salad bar for the kids? It’s the little touches that make this place feel like home.

Ambiance: A Step Back in Time

If you have a soft spot for nostalgia, you’re going to love the atmosphere at Lineberger’s. The walls are covered with an eclectic mix of animal heads, vintage tin signs, and mirrors from decades past, giving the restaurant an unmistakable character that you just can’t fake. Eating here reminded me of those special family outings in the ’80s and ’90s, back when steakhouses were a place to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and even “just because” nights out.

And the crowds prove that people still crave that experience. Within 20 minutes of opening on a Saturday night, they had already seated 200 people! If that’s not a testament to their popularity, I don’t know what is. No reservations, no fuss—just good food and good company. They even have several small private party rooms for events and a large space for bigger gatherings, making it perfect for family reunions, birthdays, or even work events.  This is a picture of Peggy Board behind the bar at the saloon where walkins are welcome to dine every night!

Food: Home-Cooked Goodness in Every Bite

Now, let’s talk about the real reason we’re here: the food. Everything at Lineberger’s is made from scratch—no shortcuts, no processed junk. They pride themselves on serving hand-cut, aged steaksthat come from a trusted source in Taylorsville and are aged for at least 28 days to guarantee top-notch flavor and tenderness.

For my meal, I went all in, starting with the salad bar—which, by the way, is an absolute dream. It’s packed with fresh veggies, toppings galore, and even a prime rib salad that deserves its own spotlight.

Next up, I ordered the Trail Boss Steak, which was so tender and flavorful that I had to stop myself from devouring the entire thing before the rest of my meal arrived.

The ribs were perfectly cooked with a house-made sweet and tangy barbecue sauce, and the sweet potato could have easily doubled as dessert. But, speaking of dessert…

Amber and Peggy Board, a longtime server at Lineberger’s for over 20 years, convinced me to try the legendary Lake Norman Mud Pie. When they said it was the size of my head, they weren’t exaggerating! This beast of a dessert features layers of homemade ice cream, cake, Oreos, and fudge, and it was so decadent that I had to tap out after a few bites. But let’s be honest—I’ll be coming back for more.

A few other pictures and things I got to taste while visiting…

The Nutrition Corner: Fit Foodie Approved

If you’ve been following my Fit Foodie reviews, you know that I love a good steak—and Lineberger’s delivers. Their hand-cut steaks get my full approval, especially since they’re aged to perfection and sourced responsibly. Plus, you can’t go wrong with a fresh, loaded salad bar where you can create a meal packed with real, whole foods like fresh veggies and even fruit to go along with your deliciously prepared meats!

If you’re in the Lake Norman area and looking for a restaurant that serves incredible food with a side of nostalgiaLineberger’s Cattle Company is the place to go. Just be sure to get there early—because a steakhouse that can seat hundreds of people and still have a waitlist? Yeah, that’s the kind of place you don’t want to miss.

Go grab a steak, build the ultimate salad, and save room for that Lake Norman Mud Pie—just trust me on that one!
