Why we like it: There’s something for different ages and interests, so families can make an afternoon of it.
What to expect: Live music, local artists, food trucks and two kids’ zones with inflatables, a petting zoo and interactive activities.
Things you should know before you go: Admission is free. The festival takes place rain or shine. Arrive early for easier parking; do not park in the Food Lion or Walgreens lots.

Carolina Raptor Center, 6000 Sample Road
Why we like it: This short wildlife storytime gives younger children a gentle introduction to birds and nature.
What to expect: Author Erin Goldman will read Ollie: A Little Owl’s First Flight. The program is recommended for ages 1–5.
Things you should know before you go: Storytime begins promptly at 10:30 a.m. and is included with Carolina Raptor Center admission.

Historic Rural Hill, 4431 Neck Road
Why we like it: The maze turns a walk outdoors into a family challenge, with plenty of chances to work together.
What to expect: Winding paths and game stations to find along the way. This year’s design nods to Rural Hill’s Scottish roots with a bagpiper and Highland cow.
Things you should know before you go: Enter the maze by 3:30 p.m. Use Neck Road for access; there is no public entrance from Jim Kidd Road. Check ticket options before heading out.
