Little Smiles was selected as our Outstanding Non-Profit for the month of July 2019. In a series of four articles, we found out who they are, how you can help, special requests, and Camp Care. We hope you continue to follow their mission and their events in the future. —EH Stafford, Managing Editor
As you learned last week, Little Smiles is LKNConnect.com’s Outstanding Non-Profit for the month of July. Little Smiles is Local, Hands-on, and Immediate! We work through our nurses to provide kids with items that will put a Little Smile on their faces and take the pain away, if only for a few minutes. From iPads, laptops, toys, birthday parties, credit cards, chemo parties, character visits, to a day at Carowinds. Whatever the family feels will give their child an up lift.
Looking for volunteers
We are looking for volunteers to help with the requests. Requests come in through our website. They need to be processed, paid for, and put on a spreadsheet. We don’t expect our volunteers to pay for these items. You would get a credit card to purchase the items and then deliver them to the hospital.
More ways to help
Another way you can help, is getting sponsorships for Little Smiles. We have several fundraisers a year and are always looking for sponsors. Our golf tournament—The Dino Open—is always in October. Comedy Zone in April and September. Our first Little Smiles Ball will be in January 2020. The money goes to help pay for all the requests we do all year long. Just last month, we helped over 700 children in the hospital, hospice, in home health care and shelters.
Create your own fundraiser
Our friends the Ketners and Browns created their own fundraisers. They hosted The Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest. Raising over $5,000.00 for Little Smiles. They helped make Christmas everyday of the year for Little Smiles. Have a dinner party and ask for eight donations or new toys. Colin Furcht and Lizette Totillo have started the Annual Boat Parade in December to raise money for our cause.
We have several tennis groups that collect coloring books and crayons. Toys for Tots and our own board member, Niall Mulkeen, help with the overflow of Christmas toys and the Boat Parade. Have a Christmas Dollar Tree this year and see how many dollars and checks you can get placed on your tree. Be creative and have fun. Ellen Stafford, Managing Editor of LKNConnect.com, has promised to post the most creative fundraiser of 2019 selected by Little Smiles on their Facebook page. It’s a great way to get your teens involved for their donation hours.
Don’t have time? Donations are happily accepted
Don’t have time and just want to do something? Cash is KING. We always need money to do all the things we do. No donation is too small or too big. We do give tax receipts for anything over $100.00.
