Lake Norman & Why We LOVE IT: w/ Chris & Dana Pape: Art, Wine, and Lifestyle Near Lake Norman, North Carolina

Not About Wine with Chris & Dana Pape

One of the things people love most about living near Lake Norman isn’t just the water, it’s the lifestyle that surrounds it.

From small-town charm to unique local spots, there’s no shortage of places that create memorable experiences. One of our personal favorites is the Hickory Wine Shoppe, located in downtown Hickory, just a short drive from the lake.

With its laid-back atmosphere, curated wine selection, and inviting aesthetic, it’s the kind of place you go once and keep coming back to. It has that “let’s stay for just one more” kind of feel. It also recently became the inspiration behind a new painting by local artist, Dana Pape, titled “In Formation.”

The Inspiration Behind the Painting

While the subject may appear to be all about wine, it’s not. The real focus of “In Formation” is something deeper: structure, alignment, and the subtle beauty of order.

As Dana explains, it was the precise arrangement of glasses and bottles, and the reflections within them, that caught her attention. That sense of visual balance creates a feeling of calm, something many of us are drawn to without even realizing it.

It’s places like the Hickory Wine Shoppe, local art events, and community experiences that make this area feel unique and connected.

Where to See the Painting

“In Formation” is currently on display at the 48th Annual Springfest, hosted by Mooresville Arts in downtown Mooresville.

If you’re exploring the area or considering a move, it’s a great example of the local culture that makes this region special.
