Kat Varner (Kathleen Varner) is the Founder and Executive Director of Books on the House, a Charlotte-area nonprofit bookmobile that provides free books and innovative literacy programs to children and adults across Mecklenburg County and the Lake Norman region. Drawing on more than 25 years as a nonprofit professional and fundraiser and over 20 years in advertising and marketing, she combines expertise in education, event planning, and community outreach to expand equitable access to reading. Raised in Red Hook, NY and Concord, NC, and a graduate of Appalachian State University in Workforce Education, Kat brings a deep, personal passion for literacy and community empowerment to her work, co-founding Books on the House in 2023 to make reading accessible through a free, recycled-book mobile library model.
