When I was a kid, Memorial Day was always my birthday. May 30th used to be Memorial Day, now it’s always the last Monday in May. It’s a somber day and no one who knows me could describe me as somber.

As young teenager, I realized the dichotomy of emotion on that day. I was celebrating myself but everyone else is remembering the people they’ve lost. Later as a real adult, I was just very grateful. Grateful for the opportunity to remember all of the people who have died to bring us to where we are.
