Our small businesses don’t just “do business” in a town or region; we help define it. We create jobs, keep more local dollars circulating, and shape the character and connections that turn a zip code into our living community.
Across the country, our small businesses employ nearly half of the private‑sector workforce and create roughly two‑thirds of the new jobs. These jobs keep families rooted, and give students, career changers, and entrepreneurs a place to start. Because the owners live in the communities, decisions about hiring, service, and growth are grounded in local needs rather than a distant headquarters boardroom.
When our neighbors choose local, more of every dollar stays in the neighborhoods, supporting other nearby businesses and services. Independent shops, restaurants, and service providers become part of the local landscape, creating the unique look and feel you can’t just copy and paste from one town to another. Over the years, these storefronts, events, and relationships have become the stories people tell everyone when they say, “This is why I love living here.”
Small businesses also show up when it matters most. We sponsor youth teams, support local charities, grow networking relationships, and rally the community in times of need. By doing this, we quietly build social and local trust, one conversation, one referral, and one shared win at a time. That is the power of connections; that is the real power of small business. It is important to note that we shape communities, not just with what we do, but with how small businesses live and work in the communities we serve.
Communities are the business.
