Cornelius
MONDAY, APRIL 6TH: YMCA improvements ahead of schedule
Commissioners received an update on the progress of the YMCA improvements. The renovations to the Davidson Street facility, originally slated to be completed in September are now on schedule for a June 1 completion. The improvements are so far ahead of schedule because fitness centers have been forced to close due to the pandemic. Among the improvements are converting a conference room and an administrative office near the front door into fitness areas and a new cycle studio with 35 bikes and a modern audiovisual system.

Davidson
TUESDAY, APRIL 14TH: Board approves budget amendment
Davidson Board of Commissioners approved a budget amendment of $30,000 to transfer funds from unassigned fund balance to operating budget to ensure the town can purchase enough personal protective equipment (PPE) for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fund balance is the term for what amounts to a government’s multi-faceted savings account. Its categories include dollars kept in reserve to comply with regulatory statutes, funds designated by board votes to specific projects or purposes, and the final firewall of financial security.
Davidson Town Board meetings occur on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. Meetings may be closed to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions, check with the town to confirm. Huntersville
MONDAY, APRIL 6TH: Updates on the Main Street improvement project
Commissioners approved a contract with CTV Engineers approving a maximum of up to $2,000,000 for construction engineering and inspection services related to the Main Street improvement project. The project includes an estimated 1.3 miles of public roadway improvements through the downtown area, with roundabouts at the northern and southern connections with N.C. 115.
Sidewalks and water-and-sewer enhancements are also part of the project, which will provide an alternative north-south corridor parallel to N.C. 115. The more than $17,000,000 project will also enhance access to planned development along and east of Main Street and is being financed by municipal as well as federal and state money. The project has been a prioritized part of the town’s capital improvement “wish list” for decades. Construction is scheduled to begin soon.
The board also approved town staff to proceed with a request for a $150,000 N.C. Parks and Recreation Trust Fund grant to assist in financing and developing the Ranson/Rosedale Park.
