The project includes an estimated 1.3 miles of public roadway improvements through the downtown area, with roundabouts at the northern and southern connections with N.C. 115.
Sidewalks and water-and-sewer enhancements are also part of the project, which will provide an alternative north-south corridor parallel to N.C. 115. The more than $17,000,000 project will also enhance access to planned development along and east of Main Street and is being financed by municipal as well as federal and state money. The project has been a prioritized part of the town’s capital improvement “wish list” for decades. Construction is scheduled to begin soon.
