A mural and creative artist

In my opinion, inspiration is the most vital ingredient in creating art. Inspiration doesn’t always occur spontaneously. The process of cultivating that inspiration can relieve stress, anxiety, racing thoughts, and other emotional or mental struggles.

“Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colors flowers, so does art color life.”

—John Lubbock (1834-1913)

Cultivate your inspiration

Take time to step outside your comfort zone to create new experiences. Seek out and study things that cause you to feel a connection. Open a coloring book and complete a colorful design. It is one of the simplest methods to stimulate creative thinking and mental focus. Thinking and focus are the basis for cultivating inspiration. Inspiration and creativity improve emotional and mental wellbeing. It provides the same peace and connection to self that many gain from meditation.

Creating art encourages healing

Healing art focuses on the process, not a final product. The process brings relief and clarity from trauma, grief, anxiety, PTSD, increases memory, and much more. As I like to put it, “It quiets the squirrels.” Often, it helps express feelings that are difficult to understand or talk about. The healing art process allows a person to break through emotional walls to move past emotional and traumatic events.

Healing art is for everyone

Healing art is not just for people who struggle with emotional or mental disorders. Everyone can benefit. Professional art skills and talent are not required. If you are seeking healing and relief from mental or emotional struggles, or just looking for a way to center yourself and gain mental focus, you can benefit from healing art and the creative process.
