The NFL trade deadline was Tuesday at 4 p.m. Let’s take a look at the trades that were made and their impact on fantasy football.
The Seahawks traded for WR Rashid Shaheed. This move provides QB Sam Darnold with another weapon in a player who can take the top off of defenses. This move benefits WR Jaxon Smith Njigba who really doesn’t need any help. Shahid is a good depth player who will have the occasional big play. His role is similar to when he played for the New Orleans Saints but with a much better QB.
The trade for WR Jakobi Meyers adds a veteran presence to their receiving corps. Meyers will step into the #2 WR position with the injury to Travis Hunter and Brian Thomas Jr. not 100%. A solid pickup and spot fantasy starter.
Although not acquired via trade, the Steelers picked up WR Marquez Valdez-Scantling. He also provides a veteran presence and someone who can take the top off of a defense. He could step into the #2 WR position since Calvin Austin hasn’t done much opposite DK Metcalf. Additionally, he has history with QB Aaron Rodgers.
The Colts paid a huge bounty to acquire All-Pro CB Sauce Gardner. This indicates they are all in for this season. This is a major boost to their defense and playoff aspirations.
Like a number of potential playoff teams, the Rams addressed an area of weakness. They needed help in the secondary and CB Roger McCreary provides just that. The tough Rams defense just got better.
One of the worse defenses in the NFL made a significant trade for Pro-Bowl DT Quinnen Williams and also added LB Logan Wilson. It makes you wonder why they didn’t just resign Micah Parsons. The Williams move is very positive while Wilson was on the bench for another of the league’s worse defenses. He needed a change of scenery. The defense should improve but it won’t make a difference. They need more than a couple of players.
The Eagles do what they do every year. They identify areas of weakness and address it. This year the Eagles needed pass-rush help and to boost their secondary. Mission accomplished by acquiring LB Jaelen Phillips, CB Jaire Alexander, and CB Michael Carter.
The Bears are another team that needed pass-rush help, so they acquired DE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. A skillful player but it won’t be enough to elevate the overall Bears defense into a starting role.
Just like the Bears, the Ravens needed pass-rush help and acquired DE Dre’Mont Jones. Another talented player but the Ravens defense just needs to play better. They have quality players.
A major blow to the Chargers was the injury to LT Joe Alt. Therefore, a reinforcement was needed on the offensive line. The Chargers picked up former first-round draft pick Trevor Penning who can play tackle or guard. This can only help QB Justin Herbert and the running game.
The Jets traded away a couple of marquis players in exchange for first round draft picks and WR Adonai Mitchell. The Jets realize they need to rebuild their roster. Mitchell won’t help much. He’ll be remembered for fumbling prior to crossing the goal line in the Colts first loss versus the Rams.
Another transaction of note, the Atlanta Falcons cut PK John Parker Romo and signed Zane Gonzalez.

Week 9 Selections vs. the Point Spread
Baltimore Ravens (-7.5) at Miami Dolphins Final Score: Bal. 28 Mia. 6
Seattle Seahawks (-3.5) at Washington Commanders Final Score: Sea. 38 Wash. 14
Dallas Cowboys (-2.5) vs. Arizona Cardinals Final Score: Ariz. 27 Dal. 17
Week 9 Record: 2 – 1 Season Record: 16 – 11
Week 10 Selections vs. the Point Spread
Denver Broncos (-8.5) vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Two teams headed in opposite directions. The Raiders get beaten by good teams and the Broncos are on a roll. QB Bo Nix has a big game and the Broncos defense abuses QB Geno Smith. Take the home team and give the points.
Los Angeles Chargers (-3.0) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Which Steelers team will show up? The one that lost to the Bengals a few weeks ago or the one that defeated the Indianapolis Colts, the top seed in the AFC. The Steelers beat the Colts by stopping RB Jonathan Taylor and forcing QB Daniel Jones to try to beat them. Otherwise, their defense has been terrible. The Chargers have a balanced attack, and the key will be how well they protect QB Justin Herbert. I’ll take the home team and give the three points.
Philadelphia Eagles (+2.5) at Green Bay Packers
The second half of the season is underway, and this is when the Eagles start to roll. Losing TE Tucker Kraft is a major blow to the Packers offense and it will show. I’ll take the Eagles’ balanced attack and the points.
