The world is beginning to reopen! It’s important that the beauty businesses you’re returning to are taking the necessary steps to keep you safe in the post-Covid-19 era. It’s no secret that salons and spas have been unofficially deemed an “unnecessary risk” to take during the pandemic. As the vaccine is more accessible and strict quarantining regulations are loosened, we are now able to safely return to our favorite beauty salons and spas.

What should you look for?

It is safer now, but it’s still extremely important to be vigilant. Make sure the business you’re visiting is doing everything it can to protect you. We’ve compiled a list of the top 5 things to look for before booking your next spa or salon appointment.

Taking a client’s temperature

#5 Has your salon received additional certifications/education to protect you?

Generally speaking, hair stylists, estheticians, and massage therapists all have to take sanitation and hygienic training prior to earning their license to practice. However, due to Covid-19, the Professional Beauty Association partnered with several industry leaders to create additional training. At Modern Salon and Spa, all of our management team has taken additional certification. Additionally, all of our service providers became certified in Barbicide® Covid-19 training prior to reopening the salon and spa. This enabled us to have the latest education and best practices to keep our guests and team safe.

#4 Read the reviews …

If you’re a business owner, you may have a love/hate relationship with Google and Yelp. On the other hand, reviews are the best way to see a clear picture of what is actually going on inside a business. People are more likely to be honest in an online review, so make sure you check out the reputation of the salon or spa online.

#3 If you have any Covid-19 symptoms, even slight ones — reschedule

Most reputable spas or salons will have a strict protocol prior to entering for your appointment. Modern Salon and Spa checks temperatures and asks CDC recommended questions prior to your appointment. Our questions are similar to the same ones your doctor would ask you before entering their office. For example: Have you or anyone in your household been exposed to Covid-19? Are you or anyone in your household awaiting results of a Covid-19 test? These questions are not meant to be intrusive, but to keep you and others safe during your appointment.

Cleaning and sanitizing the salon

#2 Find out what type of sanitation devices and cleaning procedures they are using

Businesses everywhere have had almost 12 months to invest in sanitation machinery to make sure their public spaces are 100% sanitized. Modern Salon and Spa uses an equipment set called The Complete Sanitizing System, which is FDA and EPA approved. This safe, electromagnetically-charged solution used in this machine will not irritate your skin or clothing. Most machines, like ours, neutralize airborne viruses and bacteria contamination by 100%. If the salon or spa does not have similar equipment, I highly recommend finding a salon who does.

#1 When in doubt, give your spa or salon a call …

Still feeling a little nervous about your next facial or highlight appointment? Give your salon or spa a call. Most of us have been operating under these special circumstances for almost a year now. We are well-versed in all of the guidelines and procedures. We are happy to ease any apprehensions you may have and will amend a service to your level of comfortability. Know that one of the reasons we get into the business of beauty and wellness is to have that human connection with you. We have missed all of our clients and cannot wait to pamper each of our guests to the greatest extent possible while being safe.
