Greg and Katy Law

The History of Sweet Dreams and the Laws

The Law Family built their company from the ground up. The original idea was Greg Law’s vision. Shortly after he graduated from Florida State University (May ’02) and married his college sweetheart Katy (Sept. ’02), the charming couple moved to Mooresville, NC (Oct. ’02).  All three personal milestones occurred the same year they opened their first store (Nov. ’02).

Greg approached his parents, Jim and Sharon Law, and asked if they would like to partner with him and his new bride. The four of them created the original “Dream Team” and opened their first store located in Brawley Commons.

How dreams turn into reality

As their first store grew “roots”, they noticed the exploding population in the Lake Norman area. As a result, they opened two new stores in 2008:  one on Hwy 73 in Denver and The Outlet store (which serves the 28115 area and has a large supply of clearance merchandise along with their everyday best sellers.)

In 2013, the original Sweet Dreams store moved to a new location on River Hwy next to Five Guys and Sam’s.

Their fourth store is located on Catawba Avenue in Cornelius.  It is the size and location of this store that augmented their vision to include furniture. “We have started to co-brand ourselves as ‘Lake Norman Home Furnishings’ along with ‘Sweet Dreams Mattress & Furniture’,” says Law.

The Cornelius store (opened in 2012) is located at Exit 28. It’s inviting for all ages.

With tenacity, compassion, hard work and a desire to help the community, the Laws took their initial “dream” with four employees and turned it into a thriving business employing forty-eight dedicated and creative people.

The Sweet Dreams Story

“We have several immediate family members who work with us – and everyone else – we just adopt!  We call ourselves the “Dream Team,” says Law. “Our vision is to help as many people as possible achieve their dreams, and that starts with each member of our ‘Dream Team’.”

“Our motto has “core values” – we call them D.R.E.A.M.S.”  says Law.  “The entire staff believes as we do.”

Dedicated to God and the greater good

Energy, Effort and Excellence

All about the team

Measured growth and partnerships

Service above Self

Winner of The Normy Award (for seven consecutive years) speaks volumes as to how the Lake Norman Community feels about Sweet Dreams Mattress & Furniture, Inc.

In addition, Greg and Katy Law have a personal motto that they incorporate into Sweet Dreams. “Work Hard, Play Hard, Serve Others and Grow!”   When a patron visits any of the four locations, there is a tangible feeling in the air. It is refreshing and – even inspiring – to witness the “Dream Team” at work. In fact, it doesn’t appear to be “work” to any of the employees . . . it appears to be joyful purpose.

Giving back to the community

Sweet Dreams Mattresses is not only a wonderful, community based business focusing on local patrons, it also supports numerous charity organizations in the area including The Mooresville Christian Mission, Pinky Swear Foundation, Dove House, Called2Care, Chamber of Commerce, First Responder Support Services, Lowes YMCA, and local schools.

Giving back as a team – several times a year – they pack bags for Bags of Hope

“One of our favorite organizations to be involved with as a team is ‘Bags of Hope’ which delivers weekend meals to children in need through our local schools,” states Law. “A few times a year, we get our entire team together in an assembly line and pack hundreds of bags to donate – it’s a special time to give back as a TEAM!”  [Note: LKNConnect featured Bags of Hope, click here for the video interview. — EH Stafford]

In addition, they are sponsors (and vendors) of both the Lowes YMCA and the Denver 4th of July Celebration and Fireworks. “We also paired with Wodzinski Homes this year and held a kids coat drive to help keep children at our local schools warm this winter!” says Katy Law as they collect donations.

A workplace that feels like family
