The Aloft Fur-Ever Home Program- how it all started

Tara Dowling, Front Office Manager, at The Aloft Hotel in Mooresville, is always looking for new and creative ways to be part of the community through various events. The Aloft Hotel is a pet-friendly hotel, so she reached out to Piedmont Animal Rescue, one year ago. On December 11, 2021, The Aloft hosted their first joint Holiday Party and Adoption event with Piedmont Animal Rescue. It was a huge success and the Aloft decided to have their first “on-site” foster dog, Chubbs, at the Hotel.

Chubbs was quickly adopted, and the “Fur-Ever Home” program was born. The Aloft is an ideal environment for a foster dog, as someone is on site 24 hours a day and Piedmont Animal Rescue provides all necessary items, including a large crate in the lobby. However, most times you will find the resident foster hanging out around the lobby of the hotel and entertaining guests.

How it’s going-one-year anniversary

Over the past year, 21 dogs have found their forever homes through the program. On December 10, 2022, the 2nd Annual Holiday Party — Adoption Event was held at the Aloft.  Several students from The Woodlawn School had art of various dogs and cats for auction, there were vendors, food trucks, and of course Santa was on site for photos with some lucky pups and attendees!

A great time was had by all and several dogs and cats found their forever homes as well. It is important to note, that if you adopt a pet at the holiday time, that you seriously consider that a pet is a long term commitment. Pets are not presents, but family members to be adopted, loved, and to spend many holidays with you for the rest of their lives.

Why the program is important

Shelters and rescues are overflowing now more than ever. There are so many pets that are in need of a home. Programs like “Fur-ever Home at the Aloft” help promote pet adoption. It is also an excellent example of how businesses and not-profits in the Lake Norman community can find ways to creatively work together for the good of both our two-legged and four-legged friends! Feel free to stop by the Aloft to meet their latest foster and maybe consider fostering or adopting a pet.

Happy Holidays!
