From Funeral Homes to Pizza Thrones: Romeo’s in Davidson Serves Community and Flavor
A Slice of Tradition with a New Spin
When I first reached out to Jonathan Kepner about trying the buzz-worthy Romeo’s Pizza in Davidson, I got a surprise: the number I was given connected me to his other business—Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home! Yep, you read that right. Running a funeral home has been in Jonathan’s family since the 1800s, but Jonathan’s heart had room for one more passion: pizza. Together with his buddy Chris Zambito, Jonathan opened Romeo’s with a mission to become the “Pizza Champions of Lake Norman.” Nestled on the main drag of Davidson’s downtown, this family-friendly spot caters to students, families, and locals alike.
Takeout + Hop & Vine = Pizza Night Perfection
Sure, Romeo’s focuses on carryout and delivery, but don’t let that fool you into thinking you’ll be stuck eating pizza on your couch. Right across the street, Hop & Vine offers the perfect setup—order your Romeo’s pie, grab a cold beer or glass of wine, and they’ll deliver the pizza straight to your table. Talk about a win-win! I visited on a Tuesday, which just so happened to be BOGO pizza night, and ended up staying for music bingo. If you’re looking for a fun and tasty way to spend your weeknight, look no further. Jonathan also let me know they offer a daily special when you call in and a $7 lunch special menu too!
Fresh Dough, Killer Toppings, and Yes, Cauliflower Crust
Now, let’s get down to the good stuff—the pizza. Jonathan didn’t hold back bragging about their freshly made dough, and after one bite, I could see why. The dough had the perfect chew that only comes with fresh preparation. Watching my carbs? No problem! Romeo’s offers both gluten-free and cauliflower crusts too! They also boast a sauce that goes straight from vine to package in less than 10 hours. The sweet sauce is delicious.
I went with the Deluxe pizza on cauliflower crust, piled high with fresh toppings, and it did not disappoint.
And the wings? Let’s just say I tried a few sauces, but the garlic parmesan stole my heart. If they sold it by the gallon, I’d be first in line. Jonathan said his favorite is the sweet thai chili
Family Vibes and First Responder Love
If there’s one thing that stands out about Jonathan Kepner, it’s his love for people. Whether he’s behind the counter tossing dough or greeting customers with a smile, his warmth and passion for the business are obvious. Romeo’s offers a 20% discount for first responders—a gesture that hit home since my Steve is a law enforcement officer and veteran. It’s little things like this that make Romeo’s more than a pizza joint. It’s a place where community comes first. Just check out the todo list for the day…so many gems in there.
I love catching people being awesome when they don’t expect it. Just look at the care for the family at Romeo’s!
Fit Foodie Nutrition Corner: Winning at Pizza, One Crust at a Time
Pizza cravings happen, but Romeo’s makes it easy to indulge without the guilt. Their cauliflower crust is a game-changer, and the gluten-free crust option is a win for those with dietary restrictions. Not in the mood for pizza? Try the wings, and order them “naked” to keep things light. Or go for one of their fresh salads (pro tip: skip the sugary dressings and ask for sauce on the side). Whatever your dietary needs, Romeo’s has your back with options that fit just about everyone.
Final Thoughts: More Than Just Pizza
Romeo’s Pizza in Davidson is more than a meal—it’s a place where community comes first. Whether you’re ordering takeout, hanging out at Hop & Vine, or chatting with Jonathan about life and pizza dough, you’ll leave feeling like part of the family. With fresh ingredients, creative options, and genuine local charm, Romeo’s isn’t just a place to grab dinner—it’s where good food and good people come together! I would also like to mention they do have strombolis, calazones, wings, salads, starters, and……hot fresh baked cookies!
That’s the scoop on Romeo’s Pizza in Davidson, but the story doesn’t end here. Next week, I’ll be taking a deep dive into Hop & Vine—the friendly neighborhood spot that partners with Romeo’s to give you the ultimate pizza night experience. Stay tuned, you won’t want to miss this!
