Publisher and Author, Melanie Houston, talks about her journey.
It’s not easy getting a book published, there are unexpected challenges and surprising blessings along the way. In an LKNConnect video interview, Melanie Houston, publisher and author of My Afrikah Hair, tells us about her original poem which was the inspiration for her book and how that poem grew into the story, illustrated with the art of Bahamian native Philece Roberts, that she holds in her hands today. Her book, My Afrikah Hair has won three awards. View video excerpts below.
“This is my dream book, like you have a dream car or a dream house … we put everything into this.”

“This came out of … being an entrepreneur and not having much money … to be honest with you. Being at the end. And so, for those people who are entrepreneurs … and you’re there at the end and you don’t know … what’s in your hand, what’s in your spirit, what’s in your soul … I would tell you, it’s there for you … to dig deep.”
