More Than a Restaurant: The Story Behind The Guest House

The Guest House in Huntersville

Some buildings simply have a story to tell.

When Wes and Faith Choplin first stepped through the front door of the historic home at 208 Gilead Road in Huntersville, they didn’t spend days discussing what to call it. According to Faith, it took less than ten seconds.

Almost immediately, they looked at one another and arrived at the same conclusion:

The Guest House.

The name felt right from the very beginning.

Built in 1919 or 1920, the home has been part of Huntersville’s history for more than a century. It was once the residence of acclaimed journalist, author, and poet William LeGette Blythe, one of Mecklenburg County’s most respected literary figures. While preparing the property for its next chapter, Wes and Faith soon discovered that the house still held pieces of its remarkable past.

While working upstairs, Faith made an unexpected discovery—a collection of trophies awarded for poetry and literary achievement. Curious about their history, she began researching the names engraved on the awards. That search eventually led to members of the Blythe family, including Charlie Blythe, who visited The Guest House to reclaim a treasured piece of family history.

For Faith, it was one of many moments that reinforced the special connection between the home’s past and its future.

“Every day brings new and exciting moments,” she said. “The outpouring of support from the community has been truly heartwarming.”

Today, guests gather beneath the patio lights, sharing meals, conversations, and new memories in a home that has been bringing people together for more than a century. The expansive outdoor patio, welcoming atmosphere, and genuine hospitality reflect the vision Wes and Faith had from the moment they first walked through the door.

What makes The Guest House special isn’t simply the great food, handcrafted cocktails, or beautiful setting. It’s the feeling that you’re stepping into a place where history matters, stories are shared, and new memories are being created every day. From the moment you arrive, there’s a sense that you’re part of something larger than a meal—you’re becoming part of a story that has been unfolding for more than a century.

In many ways, The Guest House is exactly what its name suggests—a place where friends, family, neighbors, and visitors are welcomed, stories are shared, and community comes together.

More than a restaurant, it is a new chapter in a story that began more than 100 years ago.
