Let the Party begin! There was something for everyone!
I attended the 4th annual Juneteenth Celebration, the only large free community Juneteenth event in N. Mecklenburg County. Some of the pictures and information came from Josh Kiser, Development and Volunteer Manager for the Ada Jenkins Center. Located at, 212 Gamble St. Davidson, NC. Their Mission: “We exist to help people create lasting solutions to economic stability”.
The first 400 people who signed in received a Free meal. There were lots of Food and Dessert Trucks and treats everywhere. The event included vendors- both nonprofit and for-profit. It featured a section of Black-owned businesses. There were two bands (one marching band), a dance troop, and a poet laureate. Additionally, there was a Kid Zone. There was face painting by Fantasy Faces, inflatables, and other games. Lastly, there was the unveiling the newly renovated commercial kitchen and event space to the public for the first time.
What child doesn’t love getting their face painted?
A look at a finished Fancy Face!
As for Mom, she can look at clothes, jewelry, and handmade bags, and get the name of babysitting service, Kreative Sitters. And lots of delicious food.
On a serious note, I had the pleasure of a tour of: BOOKS on the HOUSE.
Their Mission is: “Books on the House is a non-profit mobile book collective that offers books for FREE to residents in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and surrounding counties. Our goals are for all ages to: promote literacy initiatives, erase book deserts, provide book accessibility for our communities we serve and to foster a genuine love of reading”.
They can be reached at www.BooksOnTheHouse.org, (980)202-1882. They accept children’s books, Books for Adults and Young Adults, books in Spanish, Manga and Kid’s Graphic Novels. They have many drop-off locations and they can be found on the website.
Because I couldn’t stay until the end and the unveiling of the newly renovated commercial kitchen and event space. I got to get a sneak peek!
Looking back, it was a beautiful day and a perfect experience for all who attended. Thank you, Ada Jenkins, for all you do to make this a Wonderful Community!
None of this would have happened without our sponsors. A huge shout-out to them!
Thank you all for your help and support!
