In The Kitchen: Holiday Breakfast Casserole…made easy!
Melissa Shoemaker - Piedmont Animal Rescue
A Holiday Favorite
Waking up to the smell of a yummy breakfast casserole is a great way to start your Christmas morning. It’s generally a family favorite and so easy to make. If you use the pre-cooked sausage I suggest in this recipe, you can assemble this casserole in about 10-15 minutes and enjoy your morning coffee while it bakes in the oven. This is sure to be a hit with family and holiday guests. Serving with fresh cut fruit is a great option.
Ingredients:
Bread- Plain basic white or wheat bread is best.
Eggs-large eggs
Milk-I use 2% but you can use skim or whole milk depending on personal choice
Mustard-basic yellow mustard is the best choice
Sausage-You can use 1 lb. bulk pork sausage, brown in skillet and drain on paper towel on plate. Or I use Jimmy Dean pre-cooked sausage crumbles. They come in turkey or pork variety. I personally like the turkey sausage.
Cheese-shredded cheddar cheese or cheddar blend. I use pre-shredded, but you can also shred your own.
Exact Ingredients:
4 slices of bread shredded into 1-2 inch pieces
6 large eggs
2 cups milk
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 lb. bulk sausage or 9.6 oz. bag of pre-cooked sausage crumbles
8 oz. (1 cup) of grated cheddar cheese
Salt and pepper to taste ( I like a little bit of a kick to my food so I am going to add Tim “The Brew Chief” Schefer three Hopzal Seasonings. You can get his recipes on www.lknconnectcommunity.com.
Can’t wait to try these- I love Black Garlic Salt!
