How to Make a Lamb Burger

Summer Cookout:  Lamb is among the most common livestock consumed throughout the world.  Lamb meat is not only linked to feasts and fine dining, but also summer backyard grilling. Try one of these delicious lamb burgers at your next cookout. It’s not only delicious – it’s nutritious.

How to Make a Lamb Burger

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Sun Raised Foods ground lamb
  • kosher salt
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • spices of your choice – we used a Mango & Smoked Habanero seasoning
  • 4 burger buns

Directions

Divide ground lamb equally into 4 portions. Flatten into uniform rounds, then use your thumb or finger to make a small indentation right on top in the center of each patty (see note below).

30 minutes prior to cooking, sprinkle each patty generously with kosher salt (about ½ tsp per burger) and freshly ground black pepper (about ¼ tsp each) and your choice of spices on both sides.

To cook lamb burgers:

Preheat a grill, cast iron skillet, or griddle over medium-high heat. Coat with nonstick oil spray (if grilling) or a couple tablespoons olive oil (if cooking indoors). Cook each burger patty for 4-5 minutes per side, or until an internal temperature of 150 F is reached (for medium). Allow burgers to rest 2-3 minutes before serving on buns with your favorite condiments and sides.

Sun Raised Foods

Tonje was raised in Norway where lamb roam free maintaining the rural landscape. Her family has always enjoyed dry cured lamb and other traditional lamb dishes.

When her husband moved the family to North Carolina to develop solar farms, she noticed that sheep could maintain the landscape in and around solar farms while helping provide valuable pasture for local farmers.

As the number of solar farms across North Carolina grew, we formed a separate company with local farmers who needed pasture for their sheep, and contracted with the owners of solar farms who needed the grass mowed. She and her husband also invested in a professional farm manager and several hundred sheep to put on their largest solar farm in Biscoe N.C. to develop best practices that they could share with their partners.
