At Mac’s Speed Shop, the atmosphere is as electrifying as a motorcycle engine on full throttle. With a theme that screams biker bar, complete with 40 draft beers, darts, pool tables, and live entertainment, it’s a playground for both bikers and food lovers. I decided to roll up on a Wednesday for Jeep Night, and boy, was I in for a treat. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a Jeep ducky—a cute little token for my ride—and the sounds of local legend Little Johnny Trailer Trash jamming on the patio. The vibe was electric, and I even spotted Bobby Edman from the Queen City Darting Association showing off his dart skills. I, however, opted to stick with the company at my table and indulge in some good food—pool and connect four are more my speed anyway
The culinary journey began with a bang, or should I say, a crunch? The first dishes to grace our table, courtesy of my favorite server—who also happens to be my oldest daughter, Mikayla Valentine—were the “Texas Pete Fried Pickles” and “Down South Rolls.” Let me tell you, those egg rolls stuffed with pulled pork and mac and cheese were a stroke of Southern genius. But that was just the warm-up. Charles Long, the Culinary Director at Mac’s, decided to up the ante by sending over a platter that dreams are made of: pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and smoked turkey, all smoked in-house. Sides included fresh mac and cheese and a comforting chicken and dumplings. Everything on the plate, from the meats to the sides and sauces, was made in-house, save for the ketchup and mayo. This attention to detail makes it perfect for me. I love a place that makes everything themselves.
The star of the platter was, unexpectedly, the smoked turkey. I’m usually all about brisket, but the turkey was a pleasant surprise—juicy, flavorful, and perfectly smoked. Charles made the right call by including it. And just when I thought I couldn’t eat another bite, they brought out the banana pudding, which, true to Southern tradition, I couldn’t refuse. Add a sample of one of their draft beers and their house sangria to the mix, and I was in Southern comfort food heaven.
If you think a biker bar would be all grit and no charm, think again. The interior of Mac’s Speed Shop is like something straight out of a movie, perfectly decorated to match its theme while still feeling warm and inviting. The vibe was relaxed yet lively, with everyone from bikers to families enjoying the music, the games, and, of course, the food.
Now, let’s talk nutrition—because that’s what I do. At Mac’s, the key to sticking to a healthy diet is simple: go for the meat! Whether it’s smoked chicken, grilled chicken wings, pulled pork, smoked turkey, or burger patties, you can order these without any sauce and still get that full, smoky flavor without the extra calories. The fact that they make everything in-house means you’re getting real, wholesome food. While the sides are undeniably delicious, they’re also unapologetically Southern, so if you’re counting macros, I’d suggest pairing your meat with a side salad. For my keto and carnivore friends, Mac’s is pure “hog heaven”—you’ll have no trouble sticking to your diet here. And for everyone else? Go ahead and indulge; Charles has made sure that every bite of this menu is pure awesomesauce.
Mac’s Speed Shop isn’t just a biker bar—it’s a destination where great food, good vibes, and a welcoming atmosphere come together. Whether you’re there to throw some darts, listen to live music, or just enjoy a meal with friends, Mac’s has something for everyone. So, rev up your appetite and head on over; you won’t be disappointed.
