A New Year - A New You?

“New Year, New You?” Let’s Be Real, Sis

It’s that time of year again. You know, the one where we all swear we’re going to become our absolute best selves overnight. Suddenly, you’re going to hit the gym every day, stretch like a yogi, stop eating sugar, cut out processed foods, drink a gallon of water, meditate, never swear again…and maybe start raising alpacas on the side. Sound familiar?

Here’s the dish: making massive, unrealistic resolutions is the fastest way to fail. Why? Because real change doesn’t come from going zero to 100—it comes from small, consistent steps that actually stick. Let’s talk about how to do it right.

Fitness: Walk Before You Run, Literally

So, you’re ready to get healthier. Awesome! But if your current workout routine consists of walking from the couch to the fridge, deciding you’re going to hit the gym five days a week is…ambitious (and not in a good way). Instead, let’s focus on the Next Best Step.

If you’re sitting at a desk all day or generally inactive, your next best step is to get moving—literally. Start with 30 minutes of walking twice a day, ideally after meals. Once that becomes a habit, level up to hitting 10,000 steps a day. Crush that consistently? Now we can talk about cardio, running, or gym workouts.

The point is, going from zero to gym-rat status overnight isn’t just unrealistic—it’s unnecessary. Start small, build momentum, and let those little wins snowball into something big.

Nutrition: Real Food First

Let’s get one thing straight: you can’t out-train a bad diet. If you’re chowing down on a typical American diet of processed junk, the next best step isn’t to go keto or start counting macros. It’s to eat real food.

Here’s the formula: make sure every meal includes a protein, a veggie, and a fruit. That’s it. No fancy meal plans or expensive powders—just real, whole foods. Once you’re consistently eating like that, you can start phasing out the junk like sugar and processed snacks.

When that becomes second nature, then you can look into more advanced strategies like macros, intermittent fasting, or whatever diet TikTok’s raving about this week. But none of that matters if you’re not nailing the basics.

Progress, Not Perfection

Here’s the thing: we all want instant results, but the truth is, the big wins come from small, sustainable changes. You don’t have to overhaul your entire life on January 1st to make progress. Just focus on the next best step, and before you know it, those steps will lead to long-term success.

So, ditch the “all or nothing” mindset and embrace the power of baby steps. You’ve got a whole year ahead of you, and trust me, slow and steady really does win the race.

Now, go on and crush those small steps to a healthier you. Cheers to making this your best year yet—one step at a time and of course if you need help finding your next best step reach out and I am happy to help!
