PEAK ENERGY: Small Steps, Big Changes!

Awareness, decision, and small steps lead to great success

You’re going to make me swim how far??

Those were my first thoughts when I started training for the Lake Norman Sprint Triathlon in the summer of 2019. My business was going strong, but I was burning out, finding myself sitting all day long.

Few steps and no time

One day I looked down and saw that I had only done 1500 steps! In that moment I realized that I needed to start moving. I was already feeling fatigued, irritable, and my body ached. Something needed to change but the famous excuse of NO TIME was set on repeat in my mind. My office was literally 3 minutes from the Lake Norman YMCA, and I was the owner of my own schedule. I had complete control over what I did in my 24 hours.

We are all given 24 hours in a day.
What we DO with our time is up to us.

Why be a business owner and leader of your own life if you don’t make time for yourself, your family, or your health?

Dr. Lexi started by swimming at her local YMCA. Each lap she swam encouraged her to do more, until she started seriously training for triathlons.

Making time

So, I moved my schedule around and started doing a lunch hour workout. I made this a non-negotiable block of time. It was that important to me and it changed my life forever.

Starting with the 30 min HIIT class and moving to the “Train Like a Triathlete” program, I found myself getting stronger, healthier, and happier. Something woke up within me.

My own spark began to re-ignite

It starts with one push-up, one mile of walking, one week without sugar, or one minute of meditation. It starts with small incremental steps and before you know it, you’ve made a massive positive change in your life.

No matter where you are on the path to good health, you can achieve success with small steps.

No longer impossible

Where 750 yards out in the open water sounded impossible, this is now a warmup distance for me today. I’m not suggesting you go out and train for triathlons, but I am using this as an example that the journey starts with awareness, then a decision, and the SMALL STEPS.

Here are the facts

Weight gain

Adults and children have gained a ton of weight during the pandemic. We’re walking into a season of festivities that encourage another 5 pounds on top of that.

Issues that typically occur with weight gain

Excess weight increases blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, chronic pain, and you just feel icky.

Awareness, your decision, and the steps to your plan

Now that you are aware of a few things you’d like to change — pick one! By picking one thing to focus upon, you won’t feel immediately overwhelmed and stop before you start.

Commit to your decision with a series of small steps

Make a plan and use small steps towards your goal. It’s this sort of approach that will encourage a lifestyle change that will last.

You don’t have to do this alone

If you want a program to help you along the journey, you can always set up a Discovery Call to meet Dr. Lexi. You can also start with her free mini-course, The 5 Day Mindfulness Journey to Peak Energy.

Small steps can create big changes in your life.

Dr. Lexi Lain, ND, is a naturopathic physician who coaches professionals and entrepreneurs around the world on how to transform their health so they can reclaim their lives.

“Taking care of yourself is the success formula to reaching your full potential in business and in life, but it all starts with awareness. Most root causes of dis-ease stem from how we are living our daily lives. Without awareness, we can easily ignore the foundations to health which is a path that can lead us to burnout, exhaustion, and stress. I believe that if I can educate, inspire, and motivate busy professionals to take care of themselves, their new behaviors can impact the health of their teams, families, and community.” — Dr. Lexi Lain, CEO and Naturopathic Doctor
