The lymphatic system is not talked about very much, even though it has several essential roles in keeping you healthy.
A lymphatic massage is a relaxing type of massage that focuses on helping people have a stronger immune system, helps the body flush out undesirable waste products, and have an overall feeling of wellbeing.
Science and medicine have overlooked the lymphatic system for far too long. Just as blood is important and circulates through your body, so does lymph which circulates through your lymphatic system. The difference is your heart pumps your blood to make it move. The only way to move your lymph is by movement, breathing, and getting regular lymphatic massages.
Lymph is your body’s “liquid trash can” and is made up of 95% water. Moving the lymph helps to eliminate “toxins” from the body and boost the immune system. Lymph also carries white blood cells which help fight off infection and cancer.
Some signs and symptoms of lymphatic blockages are lymphedema, edema, puffy eyes, swollen ankles, cellulite, bloated stomach or extremities, mucous and phlegm production, stiff or painful joints, eczema, brain fog, chronic headaches, sluggishness, and chronic sinus infections.
Sometimes the lymph system can be “hindered or stopped due to removal of a lymph node, surgery, trauma, radiation, burns, infections, substantial swelling, fatigue, stress or age. When the lymph circulation stagnates, fluids, proteins, cells and toxins accumulate, and cellular functions is [sic] significantly compromised” (Adair, Guyton, 1982)
If you have one or more of these signs of lymphatic blockage, your body is not eliminating the “toxins” as it should. It’s important that you get rid of these toxins as soon as possible.
During these last few stressful years with Covid, we have found ourselves looking for effective ways to increase our sense of wellbeing and reduce stress. Now add on the extra stress of the holidays, extra family, not eating healthy, and flu season.
A full body lymphatic massage is a wonderful method to alleviate stress and help move the fluid that might be unable to move freely through the system.
The pressure used during the massage is a very light touch because the lymph vessels are right underneath your skin. Relief can be immediate. It is beneficial for people with rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, post cancer, and pre- and post-surgery patients.
In 2010, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Following a double mastectomy, 16 lymph nodes removed and then radiation, I would get regular lymphatic massages while living in Florida. When I moved to the Lake Norman area, I had swelling in my back, an area that I could not reach. Knowing that other people in addition to myself, needed the benefits of regular lymphatic massage, I decided to become certified. In 2018, I opened up Lymphatic Wellness and Massage which was located at the Lymphatic Health Center in Mooresville. Most recently, we have moved to 19460 Old Jetton Road, Suite 205, Cornelius and expanded the business to include RaeAn Therapeutic Massage, Rachel Hamden, LMBT, NC #17467 providing Swedish, Manual Lymph Drainage and Oncology Care. We look forward to meeting you and helping you with your wellness journey.
