FASHION FRIDAY: THRIFT Shopping — Enjoy Rags to Riches with smart buying!

 Have you heard the phrase “reduce, reuse and recycle” motto?

Choosing to shop at secondhand stores such as your local Goodwill or Consignment stores you reduce waste and help the planet. Yes…. seriously it is a huge issue. It can literally take months and even years for certain materials to fully break down in landfills. Plus…its smart buying especially if you are on a strict budget. So how can you turn rags into riches? Check out these 3 steps for smart thrifty buying.

  1. Shop your local thrift stores with the mindset that you are going on a treasure hunt. Yes — I have personally found some true treasures such as your infamous designer labels like GUCCI, Chanel, VERSACE, Yves Saint Laurent that are staple pieces in your closet. You know “YOUR” look and you also know what fits your body type best. So – let’s scan your existing closet and see what pieces are missing their partner. {yes — sometimes we impulse buy saying we will find the rest of the outfit at a later date. So now is the time}
  2. Do not buy items from a thrift store that do not fit you. Try to Curate a look that is true to you. You can guarantee that no one else will have this look since it’s not “department store: ordinary.   Try not to buy items you have to invest in dry cleaning. We want “ready to wear” items that have little to no maintenance. This is getting the best bang for the buck!
  3. So, your treasure hunt could be just that. Give meaning to a “diamond in the rough” and put those collections together with unique pieces from your existing closet to give a look like you just stepped out of the centerfold of VOGUE. No one ever has to know where this amazing collection came from so mum is the word! You’ll have your friends  wanting to take selfies with their new fashionista friend in a heartbeat.  With all that money you have saved — go ahead and book your Summer vacay and enjoy!
