Fantasy Football Article: 2025 – 2026 Season Week 6

We are five weeks into the NFL season and by now you should have a good idea about the status of your roster.  There are players who have performed to their level of expectations; players who have underachieved; and players who have surprised everyone.  Players who have underachieved include QB Kyler Murray, RB Derrick Henry, WR Brian Thomas Jr., and TE Evan Engram.  Hopefully, you didn’t draft any of these players.  Players who have surprised include QB Daniel Jones, RB Javonte Williams, WR Emeka Egbuka, and TE Darren Waller.

It is important to evaluate your roster and make waiver wire moves to get rid of underachieving performers.  Of course, better players need to be available.  Another consideration is the potential upside of a player.  A prime example of this is RB TreVeyon Henderson of the New England Patriots.  The expectation was that he would assume the lead role but instead found himself in a three-way time share with Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson.  It has been especially frustrating watching both Stevenson and Gibson fumble and steal goal line carries away from Henderson.  Gibson is now out for the season with a torn ACL, which will provide more opportunities for Henderson.  If you rostered Henderson, don’t cut him loose.  Hopefully, better times are ahead, especially if Stevenson continues to fumble.

If you haven’t already done so, make sure you handcuff solid backup RBs to your starters.  For example, if you have Josh Jacobs, then pick up Emanuel Wilson.  If Jacobs gets injured and you haven’t picked up Wilson, another team might be able to claim him before you.  Wilson is a solid option to start in this scenario because of how good the Green Bay offense is, and they like to establish the run.

Last week the Cleveland Browns benched QB Joe Flacco in favor of rookie QB Dillon Gabriel.  Gabriel’s performance was rather good considering it was his first start and he faced a tough defense in the Minnesota Vikings.  The Browns have now traded Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals.  Flacco will replace Jake Browning who has really struggled since the injury to Joe Burrow.  Flacco is a gunslinger who lacks mobility and is like a statute in the pocket, which makes him an easy target for rushers.  He will need better protection by the offensive line to be an improvement over Browning.  Turnovers will continue but he has no fear of firing the ball, especially deep throws.  This is potential good news for owners of WRs Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgens but we’ll have to see.

New England Patriots (+7.5) at Buffalo Bills Final Score: NE 23  Buf. 20
Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5) at Jacksonville Jaguars Final Score: Jax 31  KC 28

Week 5 Record:  2 – 1 Season Record:  9 – 6

Week 6 Selections vs. the Point Spread

Philadelphia Eagles (-7.5) at New York Giants

Both teams are coming off of disappointing losses.  The Eagles offense doesn’t seem to know its identity and have been outgained in all their games.  The Giants received an initial jolt by starting QB Jaxson Dart.  However, losing by 12 points to the Saints does not bode well.  Take the Eagles and give the points in a get right game and expect a large dose of RB Saquan Barkley.

Kansas City Chiefs (-2.5) vs. Detroit Lions

This game should be a shootout and is a tossup.  The Lions are arguably the best team in football right now and can score in multiple ways on anyone.  The Chiefs are coming off a disappointing loss to the Jaguars and really need a win.  Everything tells me to take the Lions but the Lions could be missing both of their starting CBs.  Therefore, I’m taking the desperate Chiefs.

Washington Commanders (-4.5) vs. Chicago Bears

This game comes down to strength versus weakness.  The Bears are the second worse team defending the run while the Commanders have the league’s number one rushing attack.  Take the home team and give the points.
