Restaurant Review: milkbread

Milkbread, located in the heart of Davidson, stands out for its signature milk bread, creative
menu, and modern, relaxed atmosphere. This was my first visit, and it was a truly memorable
experience. When you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm smile and a bright space that feels
both inviting and trendy. While it’s a counter-service setup, the staff takes the time to walk you
through the menu, offering helpful suggestions and highlighting local favorites.
Owners Joe and Katy Kindred opened the first Milkbread location in Davidson in 2022. Since
then, they’ve expanded the concept to include two other locations in Charlotte. In addition to
Milkbread, the Kindreds are also the team behind two other beloved local restaurants: Kindred
in downtown Davidson and Hello, Sailor in Cornelius.
While the Charlotte Milkbread locations feature unique menu items like soft-serve ice cream and
smashed burgers, similar to those served at Hello, Sailor, the Davidson location sets itself apart
as the only one with a full indoor seating area, offering a more relaxed and dine-in-friendly
atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to grab lunch with a friend or catch up over coffee and a
sweet treat.
The Davidson Milkbread menu features a variety of unique and flavorful items. One standout is
the seasonal Heirloom Tomato BLT, made with heirloom tomatoes, Duke’s mayo, crispy bacon,
and Little Gem lettuce. I tried the Crispy Chicken Bites, which come in small or large portions
and pair perfectly with any of Milkbread’s house-made dipping sauces. While we didn’t order
them this time, Grandfather’s Pickles are a popular side item made in-house with apple cider
vinegar, white onion, and Calabrian chile for a tangy and slightly spicy kick that regulars love.
Andrea had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, which included grilled chicken, bacon, shredded
lettuce, cheese, and giardiniera—a zesty, mayo-style blend that gave it a flavorful twist—served
on a soft potato bun.
For dessert, the Milk Chocolate Donut was a favorite, starting with an apple cider–glazed base
and dipped in smooth milk chocolate. Another standout was the SaMoMo, a classic seven-layer
cookie with a brown butter graham cracker crust, layered with chocolate and butterscotch chips,
macadamia and cashew nuts, sweetened coconut flakes, benne seeds, and a sprinkle of flaky
sea salt. These indulgent treats were the perfect way to end the meal.
This prime location on Jetton Street in Davidson gives locals plenty of reasons to keep coming
back. The inviting space, friendly service, and consistently high-quality menu make it a standout
in the area and a reflection of the thoughtful touches the Kindreds bring to every one of their
restaurants.
