You Can Age in Place!

Aging in Place

What are your care options?

Many seniors assume that they will eventually have to sell their home and move to some sort of community care environment. While that might be the right choice for some, it’s not the right choice for everyone. And the good news is that in today’s world seniors have many options.

So what are those options? Basically, they are In-home care, family care homes, independent living communities, assisted living communities, memory care communities and the large continuing care communities that encompass Independent, assisted and skilled care options so that one can go from one to the other as needs change.

There are pros and cons of each option. And I am happy to be a resource to the members of our community in helping our seniors to determine the right option for them.  But today I am writing about the benefits of in-home care.

What is In-Home Care?

Many people confuse home care with home health care. Home Health Care is doctor-ordered and covered by Medicare or traditional insurance. It involves short therapy and skilled nursing visits in the home, usually following surgery or hospitalization. Home care is care conducted in the home by a companion caregiver or a certified nurse aide for longer visits.  Home care visits are customized to the needs of the client. This is what we do at Home Careolina Senior Care.

When contacted for information about our services we immediately set up an assessment with one of our registered nurses or our medical social worker.  During the assessment, we gather information about the care needs of the client, including medical information, daily routines, and preferences, and create a customized care plan for the client.

Our aides can assist with bathing, dressing, transportation, meal planning and preparation as well as any laundry needs and light housekeeping tasks. Once the information is gathered and the client and the nurse agree on a plan of care, then we go about matching the perfect caregiver for the client.  We provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week so you can always rest assured that someone from our office will respond to your call outside of regular business hours.

Why Home Care?

Well, that is obvious. Most people would choose to stay at home as they age as long as they can get the help they need with their activities of daily living.  Those tasks are what forces seniors out of their homes prematurely. By bringing in home care, one can still enjoy being at home while getting the help they need at home. Some questions to ask when considering home care are:

  1. Do I have the resources to pay for home care? It is often more economical than assisted living because seniors don’t typically need 24-hour care immediately.
  2. Do I have a long-term care policy that will help pay for it or VA benefits that might subsidize the cost?
  3. Is my house safe for me to age in place? If not, can I make some home modifications to make it more livable as I age?
  4. Do you worry about being a burden on your spouse or adult children?
  5. Home Careolina acts as a partner with your family caregiver so that your relationship with your loved one isn’t impacted by their caregiving.
The tent was for the aids to enjoy lunch, and the public to get information about Home Careolina Senior Care.

When should I explore Home Care?

Now! Having a relationship with an agency before an emergency is a good idea. Many people wait until there is a crisis and then they get overwhelmed. Don’t be that person! Be prepared for the rainy days ahead.
