Room Makeover Part 2

As promised, a room makeover for under $1,000.00!

I love it when I ask clients if they are on Facebook, and their answer is no, of course not! After working on this floor plan and looking for rugs and artwork, I went to Facebook. Having come down with COVID-19 for the first time, I had to shop online and not go to the thrift shops in the area.

I was very pleasantly surprised at what I found on Facebook. When I clicked in the search Facebook and put affordable acrylic paints on stretched canvas- I found the perfect one.

It all starts with the Floor Plans, and we still like this one.

This is a great starting place, and I can show you how to do your own or where to buy a kit and furniture piece at a very reasonable price. That is usually where I start with a client. Knowing what will fit in that room, what you really need, and what the finished feel of that space is. It all starts with the floor plan.

In this space, we didn’t change anything. It was giving the room a new look through color, area rug, painting the furniture, and pulling together with a large painting.

The makeover started with an acrylic painting I liked.

If I don’t have a starting point in a room, I love to start with the central painting. This one was very colorful and fun, and the price was right. I also had fun going on Marketplace on Facebook. Go and try it for yourself. Either buying or selling it might be worth the try.

As I looked at the old and outdated furniture, I realized that painting it would be the best solution instead of buying new, removing the obsolete trim around the bed, and giving more room for the picture.

Looking at the old room, I remembered one more tip from the “Designing Doctor.” When painting a room, when you paint one wall a different color, it can look like you ran out of paint, money, or nerve. I have always felt it was better to all one color! That room would have looked great, all in the darker gray. I was giving it some substance and distinction.

As for the new update, my client wanted something cheerful and bright but a little kick of color that will still make a statement! Gold, it is! In the Dewey Color System, Gold means: ‘Play It™. Gold gives you the power to rediscover what gives you pleasure. Ignite your inner fire. Give yourself time to do what feels good. Play! Your new awareness of exciting people and situations will give you the power to dismiss and eventually discard your undesirable thoughts and situations”.

It was priced fairly and in Charlotte—two pluses in one.

The After and Refreshed look!

I loved the clean look of the white-painted furniture against the gold walls. The bed throw and area rug were also very reasonably priced.

The area rug was on clearance for $150.00, a real deal.

It’s another great way to pull color together. You will double the life of your carpet with a good underpad underneath it. As they say, “Never skimp on the foundation,” but you can use the accents you can.

Accessories-

When I can’t get out and shop- another favorite store is Amazon. Lighting, to me, is a necessity,  not an accessory! They can add character and color to a room. The silk trees came from Amazon and were delivered right to my front door.

All for under $1,000.00-

  1. The painting of the walls and furniture would be the highest cost. Depending on whether you do it yourself, that will vary. I averaged between  $300.00 to $500.00.
  2. Area rug and underpad: $250.00.
  3. New bedspread or through $75.00.
  4. Lamps $75.00 each. $150.00
  5. Trees $75.00
