Once the warm weather hits, the outdoor deck seating opens, the live music takes place again beneath colorful umbrellas and we get the craving for lighter menu options with refreshing cocktails! The North Harbor Club located in Davidson is one of my favorite places to dine this time of year since they have one of the largest outdoor seating areas on the lake with relaxing views.
But don’t fret if you decide at the last minute, a small wait goes by quick if you do come impromptu. We rolled in around 6ish on a Saturday and upon checking in, our friendly hostesses Jordan and Peyton assured us we had about a 25-minute wait. This would give us enough time to grab a pre-dinner cocktail at the indoor bar and still have time to roam around the dock to enjoy the view. So, we did just that.
At least that was our thoughts as we watched happy boaters arrive via the lake while others strolled by quietly on the dock, taking in their own peace and tranquility of the surroundings. Aside from people watching, we had fun looking at all the boats docked and reading the names they proudly sported. Didn’t see any Lady Deborah’s docked. Personally, I think that makes a fabulous name for a watercraft, especially if it’s a yacht. (wink wink) On that note, we were paged to the hostess stand. Jordan and Peyton tag-teamed with smiles and menus in hand, guiding us to a table by the water’s edge. The sun was still lazily hanging around and the lake breezes wisped our faces lightly, it couldn’t have been more perfect.
There is just something about roaming around boats and the water’s edge; I guess you could say we had a craving for seafood now, so we chose all three! It wasn’t so quick choosing our dinner drinks since the cocktail menu is full of its own unique hand-crafted concoctions that are sure to please whatever mood you’re in. Who wouldn’t want to sip on a Jalapeno Peach Margarita or a Lavender Lake Tea? I was in the mood for something with lemon, so I went for my standby favorite, a grey goose lemon drop martini with a light sugar rim and my handsome dinner date chose a light draft craft beer that our server Mason said was a favorite.
I think I recall it was an exchange of “oh yeah – oh that sauce – yummy – did you mean to stab me with your fork?” It was indeed a language of foodie contentment. I couldn’t think when I had a better Grilled Mahi Mahi dish, it was tender and juicy and so light it melted in my mouth. It was perfectly combined with roasted potatoes, mushrooms, artichokes, sautéed spinach and a vierge sauce. I thought my handsome foodie counterpart was such a gentleman while he devoured his Cornmeal Crisp Fried Catfish in a very etiquette manner as I was thinking I’d just reach over and grab a piece with my fingers, he must have seen it in my eyes and very timely placed a piece on my plate to try. The Catfish is infamous here as Mason informed us. It was served with an incredible green Chile tartar sauce. I’m going to say incredible again and “oh that sauce!” The potato cake was crusty on the outside and soft potato on the inside & Carolina coastal style coleslaw wasn’t too shabby either. I made a mental note that I would be getting this next time! Both dishes were divine.
We agreed, we were too full for dessert but next time we’ll save some room. There will certainly be a repeat performance on another warm spring or summer night. Bravo and complements to the chef!
