Getting started on spring projects has been a struggle for me this year. I’m not sure if it’s the extra time spent at home the past 2 years or this colder weather that’s slowing me down. If you find yourself in a similar place, stuck and procrastinating, here are some tips:
Completing one simple project can help build momentum to get you moving. Start a list of things to do. It can be just 2 or 3 easy tasks. And then do the quickest, easiest one on the list. It can be as easy as putting away your winter gear, or pulling your garden tools out of the garage. Mark it complete!
Think about which projects are priorities and finish your list. Review it — realistically — how much can you get done each day or week? If your list is overwhelming, think about whether something needs to be done now or if you can do it later. Put together a schedule and hold yourself accountable.
Spending time outdoors nourishes our wellbeing. If there’s an outdoor project on your list that can’t get done in a day, create a small space for relaxing in between the bigger tasks. There’s no reason to wait until your entire space is complete to enjoy the outdoors now. And spend a few minutes making it cozy and inviting now with outdoor pillows, a potted plant or whatever you love. Our Carolina skies are hopefully motivation to get outdoor project(s) done early.
Pinterest is a search engine loaded with inspiration and tips for house projects, and much more! Create a board for each project, and save Pins as you browse. Your home page will fill with pins recommended based on your search activity and people you may follow.
If you’re unable to focus on projects, power down your phone and get going. Whether it’s notifications or we just keep scrolling through social media to avoid doing work, our phones can be big distractions.
Get out in between working on spring projects — explore new places and have fun. Or bribe your partner with an outing to a brewery like I do. Lake Norman has so many fabulous places to visit. Recommendations can be found here.
Take breaks to enjoy this place where we live. If you find yourself still struggling, ask a friend or neighbor if you can help each other.
Chances are you each have different strengths, like gardening vs. painting. Work together and treat each other after finishing a project at one another’s home.
