Tesa Jones

“Write what’s in your heart.”

That was the advice author Tesa Jones’ grandmother gave when she presented her ten-year-old granddaughter with a diary for Christmas. Her grandmother may have been an early fan of her writing, but she wasn’t the only one who thought she should pursue it as a career. “In high school, I had a teacher who encouraged me to write and predicted that I would one day be a published author,” said Jones.

In addition, her mentor at Elon University still supports her and calls her one of her success stories. Having the support of family, friends, and colleagues has been essential for Jones, but she knew she first had to believe in herself, which was not a problem.

“I believe I have always aspired to write; however, it is my passion for history, my desire to leave a legacy for my children and grandchildren, and my love of people that inspire me to create my stories.”
—Tesa Jones

Jones, originally from Alexandria, Va., believes her stories appeal to readers because they are treated to fond memories of their history. “Many have stated that reading the books is like a stroll down Memory Lane, while others claim the historical details give them a better understanding of their parents or grandparents,” she stated. “If you are a ‘Baby Boomer’ you will relate to the characters as if they are your personal friends in your life, and if you are a child of a ‘Baby Boomer,’ you will understand your parents a little better.”

Jones will be featuring her books, “Reflection of Memories” and “Cobwebs of Time” at the showcase.

David Simon

For David Simon, his work as a minister was all the inspiration he needed to become an author, as it “consisted of communicating with people.” Simon began writing by composing newsletters to people and groups in an attempt to encourage their participation. Writing books became a supplement to his ministry in the church.

“The things I shared most passionately in the church over the years, became my books, I knew these things would have meaning to people, and could help a wider audience, if they were in print.”
—David Simon

Originally from Florida, Simon’s story ideas are things he has shared with people over the years. Simon is looking forward to connecting with the Mooresville community face-to-face during the Local Author Showcase, where he will be featuring his book, “Advent Journeys.”
