The History of Veterans Day

After four years and three months of intense fighting between the Allied nations and Germany in what was then called “The Great War” and/or “The War to End All Wars” — those leaders of that world-wide conflict called for an armistice – which ultimately ended the war.

This truce occurred on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. (NOTE:  After World War II occurred, it then became known as World War I)

In 1919 — and every year that followed — November 11th has been commemorated and veterans have been celebrated.  However, it was not until 1938 that the day became a Federal Holiday, and it was not until after World War II and the Korean War that the original name “Armistice Day” officially became known as Veterans Day.

Richard’s Coffee Shop is the Place to Be

“Thank You for Your Service”

Every day is a good day to say “Thank You” to those people who have served our nation; however, Veterans Day is a fabulous day to show gratitude and appreciation for those who have fought valiantly for our freedom.

Richard’s Coffee Shop and Military Museum

Richard’s Coffee Shop on Main Street not only supports and honors Veterans, it also provides a place where people can gather, converse and get a great cup of coffee.  Everyone is invited – COME – meet our local vets!

Teach our children about history and to honor our Veterans

In addition, the coffee shop is also the home of an incredible American military museum.

The Military Museum is AMAZING — for ALL AGES!

Richard’s Coffee Shop is the only nonprofit coffee shop and living military museum in the entire United States. The North Carolina state magazine “Our State” dubbed it “The most patriotic coffee shop in America.”
